Every News Source Will Jump On Specter's Explaination
Arlen Specter just finished giving his reason for voting against Hayden. Listen to the whole thing on the C-Span site as soon as they post it and you get the chance. It is stunning. He essentially lays out the case for impeachement of Bush, at least that is how I heard it. You'd have almost thought he had changed partys.

1. News sources are a bit busy right now.
No conspiracy theories please, but this "shots in the capitol building" thing is gonna hog some attention.

And indeed, despite the Hayden confirmation, the wind is certainly blowing our way....

"LET'S GO GET THOSE BUSH BASTARDS!"

10. A weathervane indeed, Madge.
And if so, I must confess I like the way the wind is blowing.

Too damn' bad the majority of Dems can't even wet a finger & lift it.

Spector voted Against Hayden?

Did he suddenly stop drinking kool-aide or something?

9. There is a fundamental disconnect
between what Arlen says and Arlen does.

14. You nailed it
He talks well, but his actions rarely ever back anything of substance up.

Specter is all posturing not bite

4. Won't make
much difference, he can talk it up with the best of them, but at the end of the day he is still a Bu$h rubber stamp! He knew he could vote against Hayden and it wouldn't mean squat because there are plenty of Democratic enablers that would make up for it.

5. Don't be fooled. Specter only votes against GOP when results not in doubt
He has made a career of this. These votes cement his "moderate credentials", but when his vote is the swing vote, he always goes with his party.

7. One Republican doesn't make up for the traitor Democrats. It's
all math. I'm not sure if I am being made more sick to my stomach from Democrats or PNAC and the barons.

Our country is sick and failing unless more leaders get guts.

How could they let that creature in?

Are our intelligence agencies so political that it is hopeless for us?

I hope the world knows the degree of hypocritical criminals are running this country - and how weak our leaders are.

8. He's been righteously pissed since at least Harriet Miers.
I don't pretend to know precisely what Harriet Miers had to do with it, but Specter was livid about that move and did more than most Democrats to spike her nomination.

One possibility is that he's pissed that he got yanked out of the Chair of the Select Intelligence Committee, and is making trouble because of that.

Another possibility is that he saw something while he chaired the Select Intelligence Committee which changed his opinion of the Bush Administration.

What could that be, I wonder?

11. Whatever he might have seen,
he sure as hell got it stuffed back under the carpet in a hurry. If you give him the benefit of the doubt, he's stupid. If you don't, he's complicit in treason.

I vote complicit.

15. If Spector were sincere, he would have worked to defeat Hayden by...
any means, including a movement to mount a fillibuster.
