Is Hayden really that bad? Fill me in.
I am not very familiar with any controversy around him however I have heard several liberal guests on Air America say he was actually one of Bush's better choices. I don't know who it was that said this but I remember for a fact one guy who backed up Hayden was on the Al Franken show (perhaps it was David Brock???) and praised him for standing up to Bush on the laws surrounding wiretapping. Also, Wes Clark said he knew Hayden and didn't seem to be too concerned about him.

I don't know what to think. It just doesn't seem like all the concern about him materialized and he was said to be someone who stood up to Bush a number of times. What am I missing?

3. He also thinks the Fourth Amendment doesn't protect us
from illegal searches.

That's scary.

4. Thats not what I heard on Air America
He was in charge of the NSA but it sounded like he was very skeptical about the wiretapping and if it was legal. I can't imagine so many Democrats voting for him if he really was the Mastermind behind the wiretapping.

Cheney was the mastermind behind the wiretapping.

I need more solid facts not just opinion. Can someone send me some articles that outline exactly what he did?

5. the excuse "I was only following orders" doesn't cut it for me
that is essentally what powell did, and because of him and others like him, we attacked a country which had NOTHING to do with 9/11, and the reason we attacked them was based on a lie

As for you comment that "you can't imagine so many democrats voting for him if he really was the mastermind behind the wiretapping"

look at what so many democrats in congress have done in the last six years?

It makes my head explode to think of all the crap the Dems have done in lockstep with the RW wackos.

Confirming Scalito and Roberts

Medicare program

Bankruptcy program

Confirming Hayden

voting for an illegal war

The Patriot Act

ID cards

Now it seems they're going to OK the NSA spy program. RIDICULOUS. They're truly useless as Democrats.

9. That is why it is up to us to get new progressive people in our party
It will take time. Hopefully, Ned Lamont will be the first to replace Lieberman

7. He was director of the NSA 1999-2005. He helped create the program.
That's why he's so BAD. He's also not fond of the 4th amendment...you can Google it, it's all there. Just Google Hayden and the 4th amendment. Scary shit!

The evidence, however, suggests precisely the opposite. As head of the National Security Agency, this 4-star general walked in lockstep with his commander in chief, George W. Bush. Hayden helped designed the illegal program of spying on our telephone calls and emails and then repeatedly defended it when interrogated by the senators at his hearing, citing "legal" opinions of Bush's hired guns in the Justice Department.

6. Have you seen that dude's giant baby skull? He looks like a
lovechild of Rove and a fetus. He's got a big scary doughy alien head that looks like he should have been shoved back in the oven for a few more months.

10. General Clark spoke was quoted recently that Hayden was a good choice
So.. it made me wonder if I was overreacting about the guy, because I do trust Clark. I'll have to find the quote for you... Okay, found it on Clark's own site: http://securingamerica.com/printready/clarkcast52106.htm

It's interesting, because the media only reported the most flattering things Clark said about him (typical), but Clark does seem to think that he'd be okay in the job, with one caveat.. that he do the CIA job as a civilian, not a military guy.
