3. It's not sick - it's sad. Your boss won't give you the day off for your
wedding? That should be a signal to any current or prospective Wal-Mart employee - this is not a good place for you to work.

43. Whats really sad, is that the woman would probably
vote no for a union coming in, even though it would vastly improve working conditions.

:wtf:

5. This snippet is strange
"The groom had the day off. The bride did not. She asked for a day off. Her boss said no. But the boss wasn't being mean. The management at the Wal-Mart in Eden just wanted their employees treated right."

Edited on Fri May-26-06 11:17 AM by emulatorloo
In other words, boss said no you can't have a day off because I am going to make you a wonderful Wedding Party!

No you can't have the day off, he he he, because you would miss your lovely wedding.

Yes it is bizarre, but I can imagine that they could fix up the plant area in the garden center pretty nice if need be.

38. Yes it is
Sorry folks, but getting married in a parking lot at WalMart (even if it is the friggin garden center) is just too bizarre for words.

My husband and I met at KMart, where we both worked. If he had told me he wanted to get married there, I would have told him to find a new wife.

31. It's very sketchy, but it sure sounds like just a cute story.
If we're to read anything especially EVIL into it, it's that Wal*Mart would like you to think that the corporation's upper management treat its employees like family, when of course they do nothing of the sort.

That said, if this particular story is what I think it is, it sounds like a sweet thing to do. And I doubt very much that the bride was kept in the dark for long.

Edited on Fri May-26-06 11:01 AM by Kaylee
Instead of getting married at the local magistrate, Walmart decided to give them a wedding....in the parking lot....by lawn and garden supplies !?!

But my question is, since she didn't get the day off, did she have to go back to the check out counter after the nuptials?

What is even more scary, is the fact that the article states that this is the fourth such wedding at a Walmart in the US.

Did she have to go back to work? And, how is that fair to other employees? The article does not say whether she had time off due...is that what they mean?

In a hospital and not in the toy section of Wal-Mart? How about a family member's funeral? Or maybe there's space for that in the chips aisle?

28. Before I read the article, I thought, "What's wrong with that?" There
been several weddings at local grocery stores where both employess worked and met there. They thought it was romantic.

THEN I READ THE ARTICLE.

The boss wouldn't give the woman the day off to get married?!?! And thought he was being a nice guy to let them get married in the parking lot?! During her break, no doubt.

What a pig.

37. She asked for the day off... I would guess that she figured that she
could do without that day's pay.

And a day's pay at Walmart would have been between $60 and $80. Yes, a bite out of a paycheck, especially a low wage pay check, but some things are worth a sacrifice.

Our friends and family loved the wedding.

I could see possible criticism of our choice.

Getting married at a fucking WorldConquestMart is unforgivably inbred.

A wedding at a local park, waterfront, Judge's chambers can be beautiful, in good taste and inexpensive.
Pardon me, but being married in a Walmart parking lot is tacky.

51. Uh, you called it "sick".
I can't imagine that's anything but a poorly-rendered judgment considering you based it on reading one poorly-written news article.

You can't possibly know the whole story. Walk a mile in someone's shoes before criticizing them.

They...decided to officially wed at the magistrate's office beforehand in the presence of only one or two witnesses.

(snip)

Initially, Foster said she was a little apprehensive about the Wal-Mart wedding because she did not know what to expect, but she said she was glad she was able to get married in front of all her friends and associates. Foster said she was impressed by the work that her associates put into the wedding and how fast they planned it.

Making fun of someone else's happiness is nothing but mean-spirited.

If you now want to discuss whether it's tacky, start a different thread.
