Poll question: Are you a vet whose info might have been swiped?
My dad fits into the demographic.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Veterans Affairs data analyst who lost the personal data of 26.5 million veterans improperly took the information home for three years before the data was stolen, government investigators told Congress Thursday.

13. Not only are both sons
discharged after '75, the oldest (who put in 22 years in the AF) is on full service related disability.

3. On top of all the other debt this administration
has heaped on us, now we face idenity theft and financial problems that will follow us for the rest of our lives. Somebody should be locked up.

4. Add one to the list
My wife is also a veteran who was discharged after 1975. I so look forward to contending with Jim Nicholson's bureaucracy when someone runs off with out identity. He's doin a heckuva job.

I had to chuckle when I read he's going to get to the bottom of what happened. He was kept in the dark about the problem and yet he's now going to find out what went wrong?? jim, you, like your fellow "conservatives" are a hoot.

Who could have imagined this every happening? Who could have imagined a terrorist attack? Who could have imagined millions of dumbfuck americans voting for bush?

7. I heard on a TV report
that the list included veterans discharged after 1975. I would suggest you put your congressman to work and find out if this might effect you. Have a great Memorial Day weekend teammate, and thanks for your service.

11. They specifically said 'discharged' after 75
But since its just a meaningless veteran issue, who knows how accurate they've been?

:sarcasm:

Anyone who has used any VA bennies since they started keeping electronic records is SOL!

EDIT...

"It potentially affects all veterans who were discharged after 1975, which is when VA automated its records systems and began regular input of information received from the Department of Defense on all separating veterans.

When VA automated its records systems, VA also input data from all historical claimant records that had been manually maintained by the agency. This data loss therefore also potentially affects all veterans who have ever filed a claim for VA disability compensation, pension, or education benefits, or who have (or had) a VA insurance policy – no matter when the claim was filed or when they were discharged. These veterans would be included even if their claim was denied or they are not currently receiving benefits.

We urge All veterans to be extra vigilant and monitor their financial accounts."

Bought a house on a VA loan???? SOL!

15. Whoa!
So .... my first VA mortgage was in 72 and was retired in 73. So that may be okay. I had another VA mortgage from 80 to 83, so that makes me vulnerable? Ialso got some college tuition paid in the late 80s.

Oh man ..... is there any way one can check if one's records were among the swiped?

16. Go to the site I linked you to and check out the info.
My wife called those numbers and had them to run the credit checks on me. They said they would run the checks and send me a letter ASAP...

8. My info
I'm not a vet, my husband is and we may both have info that was swiped in that VA data.

"Those potentially affected include anyone discharged after 1975, and any veteran who filed a VA benefits claim before 1975", said Matt Burns, spokesman for the federal VA. "Information also may have been taken for some spouses of veterans."

Plus our data in the Tricare system was probably hacked in April:

And I am freaking the hell out. And their advice is to "pay close attention to your credit records." Not good.
