Coming soon to the The New York Times? Globe reports Bush marriage breakup

In Patrick Healy's recent front-page New York Times article on the state of the Clintons' marriage, Healy noted that a "tabloid photograph" of former President Bill Clinton "was enough to fuel coverage in the gossip pages." Media Matters does not endorse the decision by elite media figures to take their cues from tabloids, but if they do so, we expect them to be consistent. As it happens, the cover of the May 29 edition of the Globe contains a headline about another high-profile political couple: "BUSH MARRIAGE BREAKUP! EXCLUSIVE! SEPARATE LIVES IN THE WHITE HOUSE." 1. the tabloids have been way , WAAAYYYY ahead
in reporting George's drinking problems. Reality is... whether he is drinking or not (wanna bet?) the fact that these stories are ending up by the check out stand is NOT a bad thing with his base.

If nothing else it does give them pause.

help to Kerry in the Iowa primary.

5. Impeachment at last!
America can handle killing 1000's in an illegal war.

But never marital problems! (gasp)

7. This is too funny!! I saw it earlier and have been
chuckling all day. Look at Laura's face!!!

On a serious note, I would not be surprised if it is true. I have never thought Laura was as bad as her husband - she is rather dumb, to be sure (Hurricane KARRINA) and insensitive, but I don't think she is a sociopath.

11. How many years has she been married to him?
She knows what she married. She isn't just discovering that she married a psychopath. They deserve each other.

9. Hmmm....what's in Dubya's glass in this pic?
The pic is from the 2004 G8 Summit. Gee, do you suppose it's just apple juice in Dubya's glass? Looks a bit foamy for apple juice.

Of course, it appears that Dubya is acting like a total buffoon but that's normal.

10. It's cause those activist judges let the homos get married in MA - we
were warned that it would destroy everyone else's marraige, and we selfishly took advantage of those tax breaks anyhow.

12. I think it's because those activist judges let heteros get married.
That's what caused this.

13. They sure look like a happy couple
I wouldn't want to wake up with either one of them. I've always believed that deadeye brought in some muscle and told sonny boy* how things were going to be during the infamous pretzel episode, now, I don't know it could have been pickles laying down the law.

16. Quick, someone send this to Hardball
Chris Matthews spent half his show speculating on the Clinton’s marriage.

He was practically frothing at the mouth trying to convince us that this subject was important and not gossip.

I demand equal time on the state of W's marital bliss.

17. People see & hear it over and over again (you know, BushCo MO)
Then people start to believe and accept it as fact.

Could Bush fall victim to BushCo's own propaganda catapulting techniques?

20. Fabulous Picture
Imagine this on every grocery store/drug store/quickie mart checkout line. Imagine the thousands of people who never see anything but the gentle, blissed-out Stepford smile of Madame Bush. Imagine their shock, their consternation, their answers the next time they are polled. Grin like a dog and run about the city....

24. The Globe, The Connies, the Clintons, and Gee Dubya
As many of us who have waited in supermarket check-out lines know, the Globe has usually been the first to print the worst about the Clintons. Up until that recent issue, I don't recall that the Globe EVER made ONE sleazy allegation about Repugs in general and Buckaroo Bush in particular.

Could it be that stock in our Dear Leader :sarcasm: has fallen so low that now even right-wing tabloids think he's fair game?
