Just wondering if it meant anything to anyone else. No biggie if it doesn't.

1. 10 recommends certainly shows some support, in my case I didn't see
any words I could have added to make it any better, you covered it quite well.

3. Daggone! Wasn't any recs...
before I posted here. I guess people weren't on the board earlier and it dropped like a stone. I just didn't want to write all of that and it go unseen. Thanks. :yourock:

2. I missed it earlier, thanks for the link. Very nice.
I was 40 before I managed to take some time in D.C. had been in and out many times prior but hadn't had the chance to just sight-see and I'm glad I did. Only 1 full day which isn't nearly enough but it was nevertheless an experience I'll always remember. My friend and I stood in the Jefferson memorial and as I read aloud some of the words inscribed way up at the top, tears rolled down my cheeks. Hell, I'm tearing up a little bit right now just remembering.
:-)

5. I kicked it. You did so well I didn't think that
I had anything to add. I've been ill lately, feeling weak and just reading, but I should have said something. Strong writing, rateyes. Don't give up.

7. thanks and kicking for more exposure.
It's a fine piece of writing and communication, rateyes. It's a shame that some of the really good stuff gets buried beneath multi threads on the same subjects.

Maybe you should post this in Editorials for more staying power?

9. I was 10 years old when I visited Wash DC the first time for a............
....family funeral and yes we saw the sites. Between the funeral and the monuments I've never forgotten that visit or lost my awe for what our forefathers did for us.:patriot: We have so much to live up to and these days we aren't even coming close to making the grade.

11. We're giving our freedoms away for a
false sense of security...selling our birthrights for a mess of pottage.

12. This week-end I'm going
to my step-father's grave at the Veteran's cemetery and clean his brass grave marker and bring him some flowers. I'd bring him a can of beer, but I doubt it would be on his grave for long. Also, will put flowers on my dad's long time friend's grave, my hubby's uncle's grave. They're all at the same Vet's cemetery. My step-father was one of the first soldiers in Vietnam (he was seventeen not yet 18 at the time), his friend and my uncle-by-marriage were in Korea. And, our school janitor will also be remembered as he has been a friend of me and my hubby for years. He would regal us of stories of WWII during the Bataan death march. He was a soldier on that march who was bayoneted and left for dead under other bodies. He was rescued by the filipinos, hidden and nursed back to health. Yes, this is a time of remembrance of all who died in service for their country and those who survived with the memories.:patriot:
