Ney, Reed Listed in Lobbying Trial Files

Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON (AP) - Scotland travel records for Rep. Bob Ney and former Christian Coalition
leader Ralph Reed spilled onto the public record in a federal criminal trial Friday,
underscoring potential peril for politicians in the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal.

In the first case arising from the Abramoff influence peddling probe, an FBI agent read out
the names of the participants on a weeklong golf excursion to Scotland and London that Ney,
R-Ohio, Reed and two congressional staffers went on with Abramoff in August 2002.

Ney is seeking re-election, and Reed is running for Georgia lieutenant governor.

The records show that the private jet chartered by Abramoff cost $92,000, while the golfing
party enjoyed accommodations at luxury hotels in Scotland and London that cost thousands
of dollars for each participant.

1. Please, please, please let this take Ralph down .
We simply couldn't stand to have him become our next Lt. Gov. here in GA. :(

2. Please
No. The rest of the Country already thinks we're all a bunch of gun toting neo-cons - despite the good work President Carter is doing to elevate the good name of Georgia.

4. You forgot one thing...
It's inbred gun-toting neo-cons.
I joke, I joke.
And Carter is one of my few living heroes.

6. We are the state of Carter, MLK, John Lewis, Sam Nunn, Max Cleland.
I am so sad that Georgia has devolved. We were the most progressive Deep South state less than a decade ago. :(

3. Let us all pray for ralph reed
Edited on Fri May-26-06 02:11 PM by BOSSHOG
He obviously has been duped and most likely was forced to attend the trip. (like limbaugh was forced to become a drug addict.) ralph is just a good christian seeking what is best for Georgia and the Nation. And now this story is just another example of the persecution of christians. When will it all end.

Sometimes I just make myself chuckle.

Actually I hope you good Georgians romp and stomp the worthless, constitution hating motherfucker at the voting booths in November. Send a loud and strong message. "Voting against ralph reed is exactly what Jesus would do." - Hey, campaign slogan???

BOSSHOG, you are freakin' brilliant! I'm making up a sign that says "Voting against Ralph Reed is exactly what Jesus would do" and putting it in the rear truck window this evening!

I just worry that if Ralph loses the GOP primary that the Democratic candidate could still lose. We are after all %100 Diebold since the 2002 elections. (Thnaks to Democrat SoS Cathy Cox. :grr: ) Diebold and the GOP stole our votes and gave us Governor Sonny Perdue and Senator Saxby Chambliss.

8. Okay, we have a sticky wicket here
Would it be in the state's best interest for ralph to win the republican nomination? If so, that would allow more time for the abramoff mess to ensnare him like a spider's web. Such a shame that so many people still need to be convinced he is evil incarnate. I really, really enjoyed my time in Georgia even though I was a geobachelor. I sent my wife a t-shirt that said Someone in Georgia loves me. Awesome little restaurant in Smyrna "Vittles." Home cooking at its best. I always got the three veggie plate with cornbread and iced tea. Georgia deserves so much better than the monsters you have in elected office now.

9. I'm torn. I want Reed to go down in the primary but I'm deathly afraid

of a less wing nutty Republican winning the Lt. Governorship and the Rerpub governor also winning re-election.

I need to check out some of the Georgia Democratic websites and see what my fellow GA Dems think. I could almost (*cringe*) live with a Republican Lt. Gov. if we could get rid of Repub. Gov. Sonny Perdue, keep Democrats Michael Thurmond (Labor Commissioner) and Thurbert Baker (Atty General) in office and take back the majority in the state assembly. When the Repubs gained control, they stripped the current Lt. Gov. Mark Taylor (D) of much of his powers and even moved his office.

We Dems, if back in power, could play equally dirty and really put the hurt on a Repub Lt. Gov.

10. Has anyone explained why, if Ney is suspected of a felony
...his Congressional office wasn't ever searched by the FBI?
