Read his web site and weep for a true progressive agenda, unfettered by corporate collusion. Vote for Strimling in the primary, to "send a message" to "mainstream" (i.e., rightwing with dollops of compassion) Democrats, Angelides and Westly.
Both Angelides and Westly are competent, intelligence men. That's what the war profiteering corporate news monopolies mean by "nerds." Not yahoos. They understand public policy and our complex society. But their web sites are very short on details, and on discussing what they really believe and intend to do, intelligently, with the voters.
Michael Strimling's web site, on the other hand, reveals a man of solid, democratic principles, good analysis of the corporate state, and strong anti-war, anti-fascist policies. He says he's running because the other two won't define themselves sufficiently, especially on the matters that we all know are the core of the problem: Bush's war, and corporate/war profiteer looting of the government in the form of tax breaks and unaccountable military contracts, resulting in a $10 TRILLION deficit--and a similar phenomenon in California, with a lopsided tax base weighing heavily on the poor. And he is right about Angelides and Westly. They are full of generalities. And both seem in the mold of Gray Davis: don't rock the boat, play along with the Corporate Rulers, and get goodies mostly for big, powerful unions. (I'm not against unions, but most poor workers are not unionized, and they need the most help, and get very little from either party. In any case, the fascists are going to kill the CA middle class/& union workers--loot their pensions, gouge them with medical, gas and other costs, and destroy public services including education.)
Would either of these men--Angelides or Westly--have fought off Enron and the Texas/Bush energy cabal, and saved California from their $80 BILLION theft? Were they FOR de-regulation at the time, as Davis was (biggest mistake of his life)? I suspect their answers--if they would give them--would not be comforting. They are play-alongers.
And I have no doubt where Strimling stands. He would have busted Enron, or died trying. He never would have gone along with this Reaganite bull-shit. (And he is particularly good on the issue of Prop 13 and who is really benefited.)
Westly has some good environmental policies, especially environmental JUSTICE--i.e., poor black communities getting dumped on--but I have no way of gaging his sincerity, and, in other respects, he seems quite corporate--and vague. Both Angelides and Westly support capital punishment.
VOTE FOR STRIMLING IN THE PRIMARY!
