Don't like the ads Google is tossing up???
Maybe that says more about what we're posting than it does about Google. Perhaps it shows that we spend way too much time whining about THEM instead of posting on the issues that matter to US. That means we're STILL fighting in THEIR ring.

If you want an echo chamber like theirs, YOU have to be part of it.

1. We have a winner!!!! .....If we want ads on Democratic issues then.......
.....make sure all the posts are about Democratic Liberal issues. That would certainly get us off the neocon/fundies bashing and back to our own interests. Might just change Google a little bit FOR EVERYONE and bring Democratic Issues to the forefront even for other sites. Let's use the google search engine against the neocons/fundies.

:applause: Been wondering when someone might figure this out. :applause:

7. Maybe
There should be some sort of anti Ann Coulter ads popping up instead of just her book. Of course, the way GoogleAds works that would take a pretty big bid to knock that book out of the running.

2. doesn't bother me
The ads are identified, and are not obtusive. So far, it seems like a good idea.

4. No, it doesn't show that.
Talking about "them" isn't always whining about "them".

There's no morality to the ads that show up. It's an impersonal algorithm.

5. Based on keywords it reads
So if it's reading stuff about Ann Coulter, it's going to put up ads about Ann Coulter. If it isn't putting up ads about liberals, then that means WE aren't posting about liberals.

8. This is precisely what I'm trying to tell everyone but for some...........
....reason they aren't listening.:banghead: Maybe a little louder shouting will convince them :spank: "then that means WE aren't posting about liberals."

Keep shouting someone is sure to listen sooner or later. :applause:

19. Here's how you do it:
1. Click on the adblock symbol in the lower right-hand corner.

2. A dialog box should come up with a list of websites that are blocked.

3. Enter the address as shown:

*ads.google.com* <--- note the * around the address is important!

4. Click on the OPTIONS menu.

5. Click on the ENABLE AD BLOCK option. (should be the first one)

6. Done.

Easier than the Adblock site says, right?

14. You know what irritates me a helluva lot more than the ads?
I'm with you. What really ticks me off is that there are so many folks obsessed about these silly ads that they are posting topic after topic about them and shoving legitimate discussions off the page!!!!!!!!! I wouldn't even notice the ads if so many folks weren't bitching about them and hogging the GD forum.

GET OVER IT PEOPLE so the rest of us can use DU for discussion of REAL issues!

Edited on Fri May-26-06 05:49 PM by sandnsea
It's supposed to be a thunk in the head about how much DU posts about right wingers and that that's the reason their message gets out and ours doesn't.

aargh.

Too many threads discussing what Freepers think and posting crap from FR. We've got enough to discuss without giving them the podium!

18. I think it's indicative also of how much time people spend on DU...
Edited on Fri May-26-06 06:20 PM by LoZoccolo
...versus actually going and doing other things. A little Google ad becomes a big deal when you spend three hours a day here instead of getting involved in real political work for the 2006 election or generally affecting change. To some people, shouting until some ads disappear is activism, and all the activism they need to do because this place becomes a huge part of what they think of as "the world".

24. I do that somewhat too...
...and I'm not speaking of everyone here, but along with that I've just seen a general level of complaining that seems to indicate no outlet for changing things. It's like when people complain about how the party should do this or that or that they are not satisfied with the candidates...hello we are the party, and it's up to us to get people to vote for our primary candidates, and if people won't do that, it's up to us to convince them.

I've also done things like start threads asking people for suggestions about what to do for the elections, about what they are doing that other people might not know about as opportunities to get involved...these threads tend to sink after not a whole lot of participation. I might even start one tonight. But there are always people complaining about something that someone else should do.

It's a shame because the Internet is a powerful tool for getting involved in things; but it can also make people feel like they're involved when they're really not.

25. I agree
I was really disappointed that we only got a million of those doorhangers out there a few weeks ago. My local Dems didn't organize with the DNC and that's all I heard for months was 'grassroots organizing'. It isn't just a DU problem and I don't know what the solution is but I get tired of banging my head against the wall.
