Is Basra going to be leveled like Fallujah was now?

Basra Begins to Fall Apart
by Aaron Glantz and Alaa Hassan

BAGHDAD - Basra in the south of Iraq is beginning to splinter under increasing violence and sectarian divisions. Smuggling of oil on a large scale coupled with increasing violence and the lack of basic services like water and electricity has caused increasing tensions in the city, 570km south of Baghdad. More than 100 civilians have been killed in Basra so far this month.

Residents are pointing the finger at the governor and the British military, which occupies the city.

Before the recent spate of killings, Basra had a reputation as one of the most peaceful cities in occupied Iraq. The British military -- whose 8,000 soldiers in Iraq control Basra -- were considered by many to be more humane than their American counterparts.

---

It seems they're revolting. And right as Tony Blair talks about how we can't abandon these people who need and want us. What irony.

1. Most importantly, they're impeding the flow of oil. That ought to be
enough justification to level the place in itself (for those that started this never ending conflict).

2. A review of satellite map
will show falluja was not leveled, not close.

I posted a declassified map pre and post attack.

We did not reduce falluja.

3. Have you seen the Italian documentary on the siege
It was certainly not a Dresden, but more than a Jenin and perhaps a Grozny.

I don't think a "satellite map" could really show you that more than it could show you a Srbrenica

5. I spent time in bosnia
have been to Zagreb and Srebrenica drove over half of the damn country. Srebrenica was not reduced. Btw you can tell a great deal from a 1m resolution satellite map.

There was a massacre, but that is a different thread.

Including:(not complete)

Building conditions (flat, standing, partial collapse)
Bridge status
Road condition (washed out, rutted, destroyed by tanks)
Routes that provide you the best chance of not being ambushed and shot.

I can look at the maps I posted in another thread that show falluja is not reduced. It would takes days of b-52 strikes and many thousands of 155mm to flatten the place. That did not happen.

That is not a political point, it is fact.

Spinning anti-left talking points

I saw you on the September 11 board too.

Do you have an agenda here?

9. Yeah, I've got an agenda
Fact. Truth has no political affiliation. Truth is a weapon against stupidity. When I argue with repubs at work I argue from a position of fact.

On the sept 11 forum I called out someone for saying that there autopsy can confirm arab ethnicity. My source, my wife, a doctor. My background in engineering and metals, how I collect a check.

I've worked with aluminum for a living, I know how it behaves under heat, pressure, and how it reacts to other compounds.

Using partial truth, like saying the us reduced falluja, weakens the point that we should not be in falluja, or Iraq for that matter.

The point is we created a power vacuum and have no way to fill it. We destabilized a region.

10. Reduction>
Complete destruction. I am not saying we did not kill people in falluja. I do not think we should be there.

However your pictures and the images I posted above clearly show the city intact.

Reduced cities>

11. If Dresden's the watermark, then you can't really hurt cities anymore
Now can you?

12. I'm not trying to make any point really, Pavulon...just posting pictures.
The Associated Press photos are simply what they are.

I wasn't trying to attack you. The pictures are moving and show the harsh reality of war on soldiers, civilians, and their families.

So they will never be seen by most of the public on TV...
