you know, I wouldn't mind the ads if so many of them...
...weren't bloody spam. Instant riches snake oil schemes. Mail order romance. Money for nothing. List farming. Key word munging ("Shop for Discuss on Shop.com-- guaranteed lowest prices!", "Visiting Post, OR? 100s of deals on hotels and travel!")

I've been an active participant in this community for a number of years, and I'd like to see it prosper. I certainly don't object to the site owners selling advertising space. But DU is generally a pretty intelligent community, and all this spam has no place here. I'm installing Adblock!

2. all the times i have come onto the board, the only time i have noticed
the adds, is when someone has started a thread about the ads. and then i look up at them. otherwise, they might as well not be there. dont look up, lol lol.

3. I went to the birders group earier today...
...and the banner across the top of the page advertised products that kept birds AWAY!
