the highest ranking Marine charged with any wrongdoing in Hiddatha?

Being a retired E-8, I am going to go with E-7, Gunnery SGt.

Any takers?

1. I'll go even lower
E-5 and below. No officers, EM will take all the hits.

4. oh come on
don't miss the point just to be outrageous. Sure, the grunts share responsibility, but the orders to do what was done came down from higher up - whether it was spoken or thru the general lawlessness that prevails throughout this unjust military action.

5. I'm neither missing the point nor being outrageous, although...
...I am certainly *outraged*. Are you suggesting that the planners of a crime are more responsible than the folks who actually commit the crime, or that the latter might not be responsible at all? Bush et al are guilty of crimes against humanity, but their guilt in no way excuses the actions of U.S. military in Iraq. Over 100,000 innocent civilians have been killed by Americans in Iraq since the invasion-- every one of those is a murder, and that means that every one of those has a murderer on one end of the weapon. They're not innocent just because others are equally guilty.

7. No, and I have no idea why you wold suggest that
I intended to make no apology for anyone who would murder someone in a war zone and fail to see why you would think that I intended any more or less. Try to recall we are all on the same side here and there is really no need to try to parse other posters comments just for the fun of arguing.

6. Some account I read today said there was one guy
who started shouting and apparently led the soldiers on their rampage. Anybody heard of this? Do any of you military guys care to speculate on what the highest rank present would have been based on what we know about the unit involved?

10. See, that's a problem with the way things are
run now. Could be any one in charge from an Gunny to a Major, depending on what company/batallion it was, what kind of OP it was... there is no real good way to guess that.
