3. Hewitt's parents named him Hugh...
so it would give him a hint when trying to remember his last name. This is common for right wing radio hacks...Lars Larson, for example.

What an insult to real journalists.

6. That was a laughable segment, wasn't it?
There was a RW commentator being interviewed by Howie Kurtz, ultimate RW sycophant, both masquerading as journalists.

7. Well wait a minute... maybe he's kind of right...
Only Limbaugh's listerners trust him without question. Other journalists have to PROVE what they are saying is true. You can't even PROVE to a Limbaugh listener that what limbaugh is saying is a lie, they just won't accept it.

So in a way he IS the most trusted journalist - but not in a good way.

13. well, first off, Limbaugh is NOT a journalist by any stretch of the
definition.

He is an entertainer (sic) and a bloated political blowhard, but he is most certainly not a journalist.

14. If by "trusted" he means broadcaster who's blindly believed by the largest
number of people, he may well be right, sadly enough.

As the other poster pointed out, though, he's certainly no journalist.

18. He may quite well be correct...
There was a time when the main stream media had a high level of trust (Cronkite etc), but those days are gone, the respect squandered. Lots of people listen to Rush and trust him to give them the straight story. The numbers may well be in Rush's favor, though that has nothing to do with his veracity.

Hewitt is an intellectual, and may well have a good reason to say that (poll numbers, listener surveys...). What was the context?

19. First of all, Limbaugh isn't a journalist...
A journalist reports facts. Fact like, "The Senate met today to vote on tougher sentencing for high-profile individuals who doctor shop to satisfy their ravenous appetite for drugs," OR "Traffic stalled today, when a crane fell on the road due to a driver who was impeded by a large dose of Oxycontin."

FACTS. Stuff that actually happened.

Limbaugh is a partisan commentator who expresses opinions--which are filtered through his "liberals are horrible and conservatives are infallible" bias. Calling Limbaugh a journalist is like calling a prison guard an orthopedic surgeon.

Forget that this man thinks that Limbaugh is "the most trusted" of anything. The fact that
he categorizes Limbaugh as a journalist, is wacknuts.

I listen to Limbaugh almost daily. He's entertaining. He's incredibly skilled at manipulative conversation.

This Hugh guy reflects what is widely known about Limbaugh listeners. This guy "trusts" Limbaugh as a "journalist" and sees Limbaugh as a disseminator of the truth. Most loyal Limbaugh listeners who agree with him--need to see him as the ultimate in truth. They're weak. They need someone to tell them--daily--what the news means. Limbaugh vomits out his commentary and the dittoheads digest it all as truth...something to be "trusted." They can't acknowledge that Limbaugh is commentary, because that threatens their narrow, myopic, distorted view of reality.

Limbaugh plays to a sick, in-denial crowd. He makes them more sick and in-denial--and they like it that way.

20. Limbaugh's lies and idiocy
Edited on Sun May-28-06 10:46 AM by chat_noir
Trust this, Hewitt...

"It has not been proven that nicotine is addictive, the same with cigarettes causing emphysema and other diseases." - Rush Limbaugh

"Styrofoam and plastic milk jugs are biodegradeable! Do you know what isn't biodegradeable? Paper!" - Rush Limbaugh

Limbaugh lied about 9-11 Commission report, Atta meeting in Prague: He falsely claimed that the report confirms Vice President Dick Cheney's claim that September 11 hijacker Mohamed Atta may have met with an Iraqi intelligence officer in April 2001. Limbaugh directly contradicted the report while purporting to summarize it.

Limbaugh lied about the federal minimum wage: "It's -- whatever it is, six and a quarter, seven bucks an hour,"

Limbaugh lied about the federal debt: Limbaugh falsely claimed that the United States is "growing out of" the deficit and mischaracterized the relationship between the national debt, the federal deficit, and the gross domestic product (GDP) in an attempt to prove that America's fiscal shortfall is "not a big deal."

Limbaugh lied about Bush's false uranium claim: Limbaugh falsely declared that Bush, in a State of the Union address, "disowned" fraudulent intelligence concerning alleged Iraqi efforts to obtain uranium from Africa. In fact, Bush did just the opposite: He touted the flawed intelligence as evidence of the Iraqi threat..

21. Journalists go to interview people, and do a lot of research.
Since when has either Rush Limbaugh done anything remotely similar to the daily things journalists do?

It's doubtful he could put together a coherent story.

Methinks Hugh Hewitt is pushing this garbage because he wants to be considered a "journalist" as well!
