Given what has recently been revealed about the NSA spying...
the movie "Enemy of the State" was less about fiction, imo, than it was a warning about what was already happening. It was released in 1998 and was already talking about buildings being attacked and the very real issue of the right to privacy versus national security. The Jon Voight character's script could have been written in the last few weeks as it eerily mirrors what is being said today.

The movie was shown on television last night and, watching it for the umpteenth time, I saw it through new eyes. It used to simply fascinate me re the technology end of it now it seems closer to a documentary than a work of fiction.

Coincidence that they showed it now?

2. I, too, wondered at the "coincidence" of the showing....

especially given the movie was prescient about what was to come, one cannot help see it through different eyes than when it first came out.

While watching the Larry King part of the movie, I couldn't help but wish he would be as he was in the movie instead of the soft-balling, bush protecting shill he is in reality.

Edited to add: It took me aback when, in the movie, the Jon Voight's character's birthdate was 9/11/40. All the other times I watched the movie, even post 9/11, I didn't pick up on that until last night.

3. Enemy Of The State was a documentary when it CAME OUT.
It was old news. It's a relic today.

Just think about what they can do now.

4. Very true, the advance in technology since 1998 does, in essence,
make the spying capability shown in the movie now to be obsolete rather than being considered "state of the art".
