Meteorologist Compares Al Gore to Adolf Hitler
In this weekend’s Washington Post magazine, meteorologist Bill Gray – one of the most prominent climate skeptics – directly compared Al Gore to Adolf Hitler:

Gore believed in global warming almost as much as Hitler believed there was something wrong with the Jews.

It’s telling that so many of the attacks on Al Gore and his movie are ad hominem, not substantive. There really is no credible scientific rebuttal to An Inconvenient Truth, so people are forced to attack the messenger.

7. The last time someone suggested scientist were "scapegoating" the
"climate" and "blaming it" for "how the natural systems are falling apart"... I laughed.

This isn't funny.

Seems a constant thread of late is meant to stir the feelings of jews. First it was stars. Now it is scientists who are after them.

There is enough crazy bullshit in the world and attacks on all types of people.. that we really don't need more myths created.

Seems to be a theme for this election: scare the jews.

53. Well, if that's their plan it isn't going to work.
I am a Jew and I've been known to get totally furious at the (usually unconscious) anti-Semitism that emanates from the Right, but that statement is so lame and pathetic it didn't even make me angry. I took a skeptical wait-and-see approach when I read about the yellow badges supposedly mandated by the Iranian government. It sounded pretty horrible but I didn't immediately hit the panic button, I guess because I sensed that's exactly what the neocons WANTED me to do. So I was relieved but not surprised when I found out the story was a fake.

If the Bush mafia wants to make "scaring the Jews" into a campaign theme, they don't know as much about us as they think they do.

How can anyone possibly find an analogy between accepting the views of the vast majority of the scientific community on an environmental issue, and sending 6 million Jews to die? Let us ask the Washington Post this question, I would love to hear their response.

Essentially this is not just an attack on Al Gore it is an attack on everyone who believes in science. I am not a nazi, yet the Washington Post is implying that I am.

The Jewish people were not a climate change! They are people. Hitler was advocating the murder of a people. All Al Gore is doing is bringing one interpretation of science regarding climate changes to light. If poor gray can't stand the idea of informed thinking maybe he should just retire.

56. Gore believes in solid facts, Hilter's beliefs were based on feelings
and prejudices-the way Bush uses his "gut" to tell him what's true. It's not even apples to oranges-it's reality vs. fantasy.

I've noticed this tactic being used a lot by the right wing; "if you have a strong belief, and Hitler felt strongly about something else, then you are like Hitler because you both had beliefs". "Hitler was a vegetarian, so not eating meat makes you like Hitler" (Gandhi was a vegetarian too; can one simultaneously be both Hitler and Gandhi?). "Osama bin Laden thinks the US should leave Iraq, and so do most Democrats-Democrats are just like Osama bin Laden". By this logic all Germans, White people, men with beards, Muslims,Christians, people who had mothers and people who drink water must be JUST LIKE Hilter and Osama bin Laden because they share something in common with them. Is this really acceptable to any reliable news source as "debate"?

30. It's a concerted effort to destroy Al Gore in case he runs again.
The GOP is scared of Al Gore. They KNOW his political capital, they KNOW that he won. I have zero doubt that there is a concerted effort going on right now, to swiftboat him. I read a vicious and bitchy review of Al Gore's film, on the Yahoo movies page. It was from Kyle Smith of Murdoch' NY Post. He trashed Al Gore personally throughout the entire review http://www.nypost.com/movies/66485.htm In the view, the "reviewer" takes shot after shot against Gore, personally tries to say that global warming is bullshit, and more. It's not our imagination.. they are trying to quell his sudden popularity, just in case. I did write to the pinhead Smith over at the Post, correcting HIS factual errors (like he said his proof that global warming is bullshit is because LA has less Stage One smog alerts in 2003... well.. if that idiot actually READ something, he'd know that it's not improved air, it's Bush's administration who changed the threshholds for the different levels of Smog alerts, so they're will be less of them). I also told him to stick to movie reviews, and leave the political hack jobs to Sean Hannity. God.. I'm so sick of those people..

__________

A good manager/editor would fire Bill Gray for a slanderous statement like that. It's ok to make strong claims. If there's no substantiation to the claim, though, it borders on character assassination, and it's sloppy, and a good editor/manager ought to be able to make such distinctions.

To understand a physical phenomenon, produce a model. Of course the model won't be completely right. One nevertheless does one's best and hopes the model's defects can gradually be eliminated. Without modeling, one produces merely rhetoric.

41. RW radio host (?Glen Beck) on Gore+global warming
He wanted his audience to know how 'liberals have completely closed their minds on this issue.' So he related the following 'story'.....

...He wanted to have a scientist on his TV program to counter Gore's view on global warming. He was told by the 'extremely liberal person who finds guests' (he claimed he liked to talk to her about politics usually) that it was impossible to find a reputable scientist who did not consider global warming to be fact. He said he kept asking 'really??' and she kept saying 'there is no reputable scientist who denies global warming'.

...So on his own he found one at MIT in 15 minutes; he ended his cute little story with 'you see what closed minds liberals have?????'

At a point when most of America is confused about global warming and looking for answers, you don't run a fucking personality profile on a kook and let him spew all his cockamamie theories without some sort of scientific rebuttal or analysis. Every one who read this article is going to come away with the idea that global warming is in doubt, when it is not. 55. Its all very similar to the attacks on Darwinism
Science is not the RW's friend. They can't credibly attack the science behind global warming in an identical fashion that they attack Darwinism. They claim both are unproven theories. And to the minions of less than a high school education that the RW primarily relies on, they have to believe the RW so that they can feel that they too are an "intellectual". The RW focuses on giving these people the feeling that just because they are less learned, if they listen to the RW's soundbites and less than fully factual articles, they too can become experts despite their lack of education.
