Are illegal immigrants getting free college tuition?
Where is this line coming from? I know several states have IN-STATE college tuition for illegal immigrants and several more are proposing it. I am against this also, but it's just not the same as free tuition and I hate when people screw up the facts like that. So what do you say DUers, true or false?

7. I've helped undocumented students get scholarships. Some "full-ride."
It's a competitive game and no one can doubt that these kids are part of our community. They'll get educated in Texas, they'll stay in the US, and they'll be parents to future Americans. If they deserve scholarships, they deserve scholarships. Illegals won't qualify for FAFSA-system loans and grants and it's near impossible for them to get into the military now, which is how many used to qualify for citizenship-track and subsidized education. So if some future leader can get a scholarship to college, our whole country is better off if they get it. I don't give a damn if they have their papers yet or not. They're here and their part of us and we leave them out of hte educational system at our own peril.

2. Not unless they can be a lineman for a Division I football team
in which case I'm all for it.

I also oppose in-state tuition for illegal immigrants, though if a student is a US citizen and resident of a said state, then his/her parents status should not matter.

5. In state tuition for illegals in MA was thought to be a sure thing.
The initial head count of legislators supporting it was way in favor of the proposed legislation.

It took a lot of phone calls from angry MA residents to either get them to change their vote or look for another job.

Federal Action
In April, members of Congress sponsored bipartisan legislation to repeal the provision in the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 that prohibits states "from providing a post-secondary education benefit to an alien not lawfully present unless any citizen or national is eligible for such benefit." The Student Adjustment Act would allow certain minor immigrant children to gain legal status and permit states to offer in-state tuition and financial aid to undocumented immigrants. To be eligible, students must under the age of 21, have lived in the United States for five years continuously, and be at least in the seventh grade or actively pursuing admission to a college or university.

9. They will not have to pay out of state tuition as legal Americans have to
do, and that is really unfair. It seems the republicans and democrats don't care about the people who are already here; they are willing to push our wages down and bring us closer and closer to the have and have not society that will leave them on top. The democratic party no longer represents the majority of Democrats. The republican party does not either but the pubs are too stupid to know that.
