Welcome to Plantation Amerika! Oprah lives in the BIG HOUSE ~
Where do you live?

Oprah lives in the BIG HOUSE on PLANTATION AMERIKA because she is a Billionaire. It doesn't matter that she is an African American woman, she is a billionaire and she gets to live in the BIG HOUSE.

DIEBOLD may even allow her vote to count. She lives in the BIG HOUSE on PLANTATION AMERIKA in a fancy neighborhood so her vote just may be allowed to count.

Where do you live, will your vote count? Do YOU count?

Oprah lives in the BIG HOUSE because she could get sick any day of the week and she would not have to even think about needing to depend on her Medical Insurance.

Do you need your medical insurance to stay healthy? Do YOU count?

Oprah lives in the BIG HOUSE because if she wanted to give $$$$$ to a candidate of her choice, she could do it and never feel the sting in her food budget.

Can you do that? Do YOU Count?

Oprah lives in the BIG HOUSE on PLANTATION AMERIKA because she can pick up the phone and request a meeting with GW if she wanted to and she "might" be able to meet with him if he thought it would bring him up 2% in the polls.

So, let's face it,this self made African American woman lives in the BIG HOUSE on PLANTATION AMERICA.

Where do you live?

2. I don't understand this post one bit. Not one. And I don't know what
you're saying about Oprah, but I took it to be that she's an elitest (I didn't read racism on her part or yours into this, but since I don't understand they gist of this post, I could be wrong).

She is a woman who's very full of herself and is very good at promoting herself, even when she has nothing relevant or interesting to say. But maybe I'm being mean, because I never understood the Oprah mania thing anyway.

3. Yeah, she's really comfortable, but she does remember
where she started. She knows there is no way she could spend all that money on herself, not even if she turned spending it into a full time job.

So she's giving it away, sometimes quietly, sometimes noisily, and sometimes in ways you and I may not approve of. But she's doing it.

Contrast that with the Waltons, the Mellon-Scaifes, the Koches, the Bushes and other families. There are window dressing foundations to keep heirs salaried, and money that goes into that foundation death spiral, but what did most of them DO?

I'm not overfond of shows that fawn over celebrities, but I admit to tuning in when she's done shows on NOLA, on Darfur, and on other places and issues. She occasionally manages to give a voice to the voiceless, she gives her fortune away generously, and I find little to criticize.

She can live in the big house. I don't want to. All I could think about would be having to clean it.

10. LOL ~ I admire Oprah so much because she gives back

and she has compassion.

I certainly don't live in the BIG HOUSE but I know that Amerika is just like a Plantation and that it is run by very wealthy, powerful and NOT COMPASSIONATE people.

That is my point.

Anyone that lives in today's Amerika should have realized or should face the fact that it is run just like a PLANTATION.

It's not like she inherited her wealth, or scammed people like Ken Lay. I think she and other very wealthy people should be taxed more heavily, for sure.

IMO, we can not solve any of the top problems in Amerika until we are able to have our voices heard.

The last time I checked, the NEOCONS still own Plantation Amerika.

The last time I checked we still don't have "Main Stream Media" admitting that DIEBOLD stole our votes.

They put their people on the Supreme Court.

They refuse to end this war...etc. etc. etc.

and I am extremely proud of her achievements.

I believe that she would be the first in line to agree with you that she. and everyone of those that GW gives those lovely tax breaks to, should pay more taxes!

Ken Lay and Oprah's name should not be in the same sentence.

15. Wish saying you live there would give us the power

to DO something about DIEBOLD or END THE WAR but it doesn't.

I used Oprah as an example of what BIG HOUSE means. I used an African American and a WOMAN.

That was done because in her case, RACE doesn't matter, money and power to reach a large number of people gets her there.

My question remains, do WE count in Bush Amerika?

I am not content until we can all say that we COUNT and our VOTES and opinions COUNT.

I dont blame Oprah for not incorporating a lot of politics into her shows. That is a sore subject. She handles those issues w/ subtlety and with class and I know where she stands. I have lots more respect for her, because she didnt get to where she is the way Condi did. I am proud that a black woman can make herself a billionaire.

I hope to God we will win in November, but even if we "win" the Supreme Court will still be in the hands of the NeoCons and so will corporate Amerika.

And, if we think they will sit back and not still think they are the OWNERS we are sadly mistaken.

Oprah may live in the BIG HOUSE but the true power to do evil is now in the hands of the NeoCon OWNERS of PLANTATION AMERIKA.

I believe that what you are saying is that in plantation Amerika, there are 'field negros' and then there are the 'house negros'. Those of us who slave (work) to make the owners (corporate America) rich are the 'field negros', and Ms Opera, because she is African American, her billions of $$ allows her to be a 'house negro'.

Am I reading you right? Cause if I am, then I agree with you :)

Should we all hate Oprah because she is successful and bought a big house.

Personally, I don't particularly like shows like Oprah, Dr. Phil, etc, - but if they can enrich themselves doing it and afford a big house I don't see why we should begrudge them that.

Actually, I tend to hate celebrity worship. I literally don't care one iota what any of these celebrity types are doing.

Let Oprah buy whatever the hell she wants. It is really none of our business.

28. Still not really following....
..when you say:

it is about recognizing that WE have no power to control anything in Bush Amerika.

what does this mean exactly?

We have no power to control anything because the American voters have effectively given all 3 branches of government to the Republicans? Sort of the same as Republicans felt when they had no power to control anything back when Clinton was in office and the Democrats controlled the House and Senate till the 94' debacle.

So ya, the party out of power kinda feels they have no power to control anything. Kinda obvious.

Then again, if your talking about stolen election conspiracies being the reason we have no power, then sorry, but I just never bought the Diebold conpiracy fantasies.

I'm doing fairly well financially these days, so I am infact looking to buy a much bigger house. I will continue voting Democratic, and I'm quite sure the pendulum will swing our way in 06 or 08 which will leave the Republicans feeling they have no power to control anything again. I certainly won't be sympathizing with them when it happens.

33. Well...
If you believe in the kind of election conspiracies often discussed on DU, I suppose you would think that. I believe both sides cheat and game elections as much as they can get with - but at the end of the day most people's vote does count.

I don't believe any of these grand Diebold fantasies. I suspect for some people it is a lot easier to believe that elections are stolen rather than to have to accept that the majority of the country may not see things their way.

Do you individually have much power in a nation of 300 million? Nope. Do you and even 50,000 like minded people have much power in a nation of 300 million? Some, but not so much considering the fact that for every group of people you assemble the other side is doing the same exact thing. For every left of center political forum, there is a right of center one.

The Neo-Cons have not changed so many laws that "we" have no power. That is simply nonsense.

You have the same power to vote you always have had. And when the pendulum swings back the other direction, and Democrats take Congress, all this fantasy about Diebold conspiracies will be long forgotten about.

I'm sorry to say, an uncle and his Alabama wife took me in their car, pretending to be giving me a tour of the city, and drove right over to a road passing by a somewhat large house on a hill, and they started pointing at it, with MAJOR hostility, telling me how it belonged, to their great rancor, to a man named "the Reverend Fred Shuttlesworth," a friend of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s."

God, they could not spew enough hatred to get it all in on one pass by the house. It had them boiling mad that ANY black person had more than a couple of dimes to rub together.

I was only a child, but that was the day I wrote off my uncle, a man I had absolutely adored before seeing him in Birmingham.

Anyone who thinks as did my uncle on this unfortunate occassion is simply beneath contempt.

43. Why are you picking on Oprah?
She's a real rags to riches story, an American story if you will, that she achieved through hard work. Not only that, unlike trust fund heirs like Bush, his twins, and Paris Hilton, et al., Oprah never forgets that most Americans struggle day to day and she does what she can to help pull up those beneath her whether she highlights an issue on her show like kids who need food and health care, or the many philanthropies she does like scholarships and other helping out the least among us things she does.

Class and power. I understand that, but I think people are objecting to your use of Oprah as being a symbol of someone with benefits that haven't fully been earned. I mean, you know that these benefits have been earned and I see you respect & admire Oprah. She's a really good-hearted Democrat. I'm glad to have such a powerful woman on our side.

But I also think that your point would be further driven home if you'd alluded to someone who hasn't worked as hard as she has; Paris Hilton, as the above poster mentioned.

I think America has a definite class system. It is based more on family names, not as much the money someone makes.

Thanks for the link...that is exactly what I have been talking about!

“Surely, in the history of lies told to the population, this is the biggest lie. In the history of secrets, withheld from the American people, this is the biggest secret: that there are classes with different interests in this country. To ignore that—not to know that the history of our country is a history of slaveowner against slave, landlord against tenant, corporation against worker, rich against poor—is to render us helpless before all the lesser lies told to us by people in power.” Howard Zinn

48. #1 Paris Hilton isn't a minority and never knew a thing about slavery

For about the third time I will repeat, her benefits have been EARNED.

Please read my previous posts.

Oprah not only has heard for her entire life about the pain of slavery, she lives her life with compassion.

Her politics are fine with me.

I find it very interesting that some just can't figure out why I picked Oprah.

Huuum
