680 illegal votes
Edited on Fri Jan-13-06 01:57 PM by KingFlorez
There were 680 illegal votes that helped Bush become President.

From USA Today:

"344 ballots with no evidence they were cast on or before Election Day; 183 ballots with United States postmarks rather than overseas postmarks; 96 ballots lacking the required signature or address of a witness; 169 ballots from voters who were not registered, who failed to sign the envelope or who had not requested a ballot as required by federal law; five ballots received after the Nov. 17 deadline; and 19 voters who cast two ballots, both of which counted."

Now this clearly violated Florida law and this seems to have been ignored by everyone including Democrats. This, in my opinion is the most damning evidence against Bush in terms of the 2000 election. I can't imagine for the life of me why Democratic leaders have not shouted this from the moutaintops. Even if Bush still would have won, it's still wrong that he was awarded illegal votes.

5. I wish this had been
brought up at the time. But if it was unknown to , or ignored by, everyone including the Democrats, then I just don't see how it damns Bush anymore than he already was. Or at all, for that matter. If he didn't know, and he could not possibly know everything that happened, then he has no moral culpability. I'm not talking about those things that he did know, and there were plenty of them. If you disagree, and think this is a more damning piece of evidence, please explain, as I cannot seem to make the logical leap.

6. Imagine if history would have been corrected
Edited on Fri Jan-13-06 01:49 PM by Ksec
Would this country be in the quagmire it is today? Gore would have had the country buzzing along and people would be making real wages. Thousands of people still alive , not murdered by a corrupt politician who thinks hes a dictator. I imagine the world would be a much better place without the evils of the bush administration smearing it with their fascism . Saddam would still be in power avoiding a civil war in Iraq , but the Iraqi people would themselves, be plotting his overthrow.

Im not romantizing but I guaruntee the country would be much richer and responsible.

7. Due to Polical Pressure,
and Joe Lieberman running amok, Gore accepted military ballots which did not meet the criterion of being postmarked by election day. However, there's no reason the courts should have upheld those ballots -- their responsibility is to the voters and the law.

Looks like this just confirms that the state supreme court would have overturned the results if their order had been allowed to stand. And that Bush v Gore was not just the last chapter of a losing candidate's effort, but handed the election to the wrong person.

9. It would run counter to the mantra of "Count every vote" and
look like Gore was trying to disenfranchise active duty troops. Gore wanted to win, but not like that.
