I hope some of you had a chance to watch Frontline's
AIDS retrospective. It is television at its best.

It's sad that the networks with all the money can't come up with something half as good as this.

3. Was it on PBS?
Hopefully it'll repeat. PBS is good about that. No TIVO in my house, alas. I'm sorry I've missed it. Frontline is one of the best shows on television, and excellent reporting.

4. excellent...tonight was the first part, it must continue next week
do not miss it. I lived through all that, had good friends in San Francisco, we were so pissed at Reagan.

If you're interested, read And The Band Played On, by Randy Shilts about Aids (and conduct Unbecoming about gays in the military...if you think you're mad now?)

6. Judge Roberts told Reagan to not deny AIDS could be spread by....
....casual contact.

One damning detail from the documentarty that's relevant today.

To help calm public fears, Reagan was told by his science advisors to say publicly that AIDS could not be spread by casual contact.

Reagan was going to, but at the last minuite Chief Justice John Roberts (then a legal aide) advised him to waffle, and to not deny that AIDS could be spread by csual contact.

The Federal Health oficials were appalled, and rushed to hold news conferences to correct the record.

And thius is the man who Bush appointed as Supreme Copurt Justice, and which Congress approved.
