US AIDS abstinence plan is based on pharm profit, NOT morality - SPREADING

Like wild fire...

Big pharm is making HUGE profits off the AIDS epidemic. A large portion of money spent goes in two directions:

1. Spending on abstinence education: read about the 'effectiveness' of THAT program here:

Buzzflash has a headline that reads:

A disaster for abstinence ideology experiments? No. It is EXACTLY what big pharm wants. More and more people in need of their drugs. It has ALWAYS been known that abstinence prevention wouldn't work with AIDS as a global policy. One must remember the other way that US spends money on AIDS.....

2. BUYING DRUGS DIRECTLY FROM BIG PHARM TO GIVE TO PEOPLE WITH AIDS. The money never even goes into the hands of the governments of the countries who receive the drugs...it goes STRAIGHT to the pharmeceutical companies. Right into thier pockets.

So, we have a strategy that is allowing AIDS to spread unchecked....

And, big pharm is pocketing the money the US spends on AIDS drugs directly...(and realize, that Bush policy focuses heavily on keeping drugs under patent so that the pharm companies can hoard as much money as possible without making the medication cheaper and more affordable to the masses)...

Put 2 + 2 together and we have a global policy for maintaining the AIDS epidemic for the profit of the pharmeceutical companies. And, why should this be a surprise. Our own health care is dictated by the profits of private insurance and HMO's. Our own financial survival can be destroyed by the debt to a for profit medical system.

For all those who think that abstinence is a moral issue, they are forgetting the key Bush adminstration ideology. PROFIT above all. It is mighty convenient that their insane base will lap up this devastating policy in some twisted pseudo-moral interpretation of their religious beliefs setting global policy. But, that is just a beneficial side effect. It has NOTHING to do with the true reason why we promote an AIDS policy that is resulting in the SPREAD of the disease.

We focus on the Iraq war (and that is a horror and disaster and crime of the Bush cartel, and deserves constant vigillance and exposure)...

But, there is a global epidemic of death that the US government is helping to perpetuate for the profits of a very few rich, connected friends. And, the numbers being killed and orphaned dwarf even the tragic numbers we have seen in the death of Iraqis (and the military personnel)...This is an issue that needs more attention.

It is a scandal of epic proportions.
