Seriously, if I built a giant brick wall around our country....
...would it really make a difference with the Illegal immigrant issue? Or would signal that illegals could still sneak in through another way but please just not through our border. If anything I'm thinking the wall would just make it more dangerous for illegal immigrants to enter our country because let's face it - as long as their is a demand for cheaply paid labor that doesn't show up on the books then there will be a reason for people to cross our borders illegally.

Want to shut down illegaly immigrants then go after the employers that hire them. If there are no jobs then there is no reason to come to this country

1. There are no jobs right now.
Yet they want to allow more H1Bs.

Plenty of Americans are qualified and want to be...

2. May I suggest a two pronged solution
Don't provide jobs to the immigrants. And, flag wavers who live to hate should just show us damn liberals that Americans actually will do the jobs that immigrants now do. Visualize free republic members harvesting lettuce for twelve hours a day and all because they are part of the solution for a change.

3. If Bush builds a 30 ft. wall along the border ...
will he then send the National Guard into Mexico to confiscate all the 31 foot ladders?

4. Is there any stats on how many "illegal immigrants" entered this country
legally, and then their visas expired, so now they're "illegal"?

Bet many of them aren't as brown as the ones the Righties think . . .

5. Shutting down businesses is not such a great idea
Yeah, and they can't put the wall around the coastlines. Though if they could, they would.

Why don't they find some island they can live on in isolation? All those Americans who can't stand the international economy. See if they can support themselves all alone.

10. Why Isn't It a Good Idea
to shut down businesses? Why is it always the little guy that has to pay for everything?

12. I don't want to shut down any business
I just want to penalize those that feel they are above the law and hire illegal immigrants.

I bet that those business owners that do this probably aren't voting democrat either

6. Would that wall be to keep them out .... or keep us in?
They may decide to build one on the Canadian border after they finish the Mexican border wall. That would be the time to get the hell out. Republicans are quick to worship Ronald Reagan for saying "tear down that wall" -- while at the same time they want to build another right here. The irony is too rich.

8. The wall thing assumes that most of them walk in across the desert
Most don't from what I can tell. There are any number of ways of arriving in the US other than walking across a horrid desert or piled in the back of a truck but *sigh* Americans (not you Lynne) get that picture in their head and think that a wall will keep them out. Well if you did put up a wall how long do you think it would take for someone to bust through in a truck or dig under it? These are very hard working people you know.
