Republicans conceding defeat? Asshole talking points.
It has to be Republican talking points, and it sounds like they're already conceding defeat, and trying to blame Democrats for problems they've created.

I've heard this same story line from 2 different regions of the country in the last couple of weeks. First, a couple of weeks ago, in a conversation with a friend in Mississippi, and then again this morning from another friend in Ohio.

The line is, Things are Ok right now, but as soon as the Democrats take over, they're really going to screw up the economy.:wtf:

Who's putting out this pre-emptive bullshit? Fox? RNC? It needs to be addressed in public, Now!

2. That is their '06 elections message.
Don't vote for the Dems because they'll surrender to terrorists, have gay marriages everywhere, and the economy will tank.

They cannot run on the merits of their own record- it is a disaster.

3. Years ago, a chicken restaurant owner in a small town
was spreading a rumor that a nearby hamburger store was selling wormy fish sandwiches. This is the exact strategy being used by the Pubs. They simply fabricate the talking points and spew them out. After all, there is no way to declare such political statements as being illegal. The only way this tactic can be stopped is for enough people to realize the ploy so as to cause a backlash effect. That can and does happen.

4. The talking points are failing
Republicans have been repeating that same line for years, "vote for Dems and were all doomed". Nothing new there.

5. A lot of their talking points come from Republican consultant Frank Luntz.
Here's a copy of one of his playbooks. They pay him good money for this stuff.

9. Here's another one from Luntz.
This one's on the environment.

http://www.ewg.org/briefings/luntzmemo/pdf/LuntzResearch_environment.pdf

The environment is probably the single issue on which Republicans in general- and President Bush in particular - are most vulnerable. A caricature has taken hold in the public imagination: Republicans seemingly in the pockets of corporate fat cats who rub their hands together and chuckle manically as they plot to pollute America for fun and profit. And only the Democrats and their goodhearted fiends from Washington can save America from these sinister companies drooling at the
prospect of strip mining every picturesque mountain range, drilling for oil on every white sand beach,
and clear cutting every green forest.

The fundamental problem for Republicans when it comes to the environment is that whatever you say is viewed through the prism of suspicion. As with education, Social Security and so many other issues, the Democrats have been expert at constructing a narrative in which Republicans and conservatives are the bad guys. And if Americans swallow that story, then whatever comes later is mere detail.

Indeed, it can be helpful to think of environmental (and other) issues in terms of “story.” A
compelling story, even if factually inaccurate, can be more emotionally compelling than a dry recitation
of the truth.

Read that very last sentence again, the one I bolded. IMHO, It says a lot about them and their willingness to mislead the public.
