Need a good kicker to end my LTTE
This is what I have so far... I need a good word to describe the White House of Team Bush:

The person that wrote into Speak Out about not expecting the government to take care of us during crisis needs a bit of a history lesson. It was FEMA that won the glowing praise of then Governor George W. Bush for their response to a disaster in Texas. It was the feds that tracked down, arrested and convicted the terrorists responsible for the first World Trade Center bombing. It is the US government under the CDC that leads worldwide response to any disease outbreak. Going back, it was the federal government the led the charge to put a man on the moon, win two World Wars and to lead us out of the Great Depression. While it is far from perfect, the government has proven it can lead our country to many great and wonderful things when it has a competent person at the helm. Unfortunately, our government is now led by __________________

I want to say a bunch of incompetent boobs... but, i'm not sure how that would come across in print.

7. It's not "a person THAT." It's "a person WHO."
Also, "then-Governor" with the hyphen. "that led the charge," not "the led the charge." "Wrote to Speak Out," not "wrote into Speak Out."

I'll leave others to supply you with the boffo ending...but am happy to help with basic editing chores.

Get nasty and it might not get printed but most already have an unpleasant image in their minds just at the name G.W. Bush. That says it as well as anything and might get printed.

12. Can I assist with some grammatical errors?
Replace "that" with "who" in the following places:

The person that...
It was the feds that... (also, capitalize Feds)
It is the US government under the CDC that...

Replace "the" in "Going back, it was the federal government the..." with "that"

edit to add: or..if that's too long, you can just say "assholes".

You might want to borrow from the old joke:

...our government is now headed by those who believe government cannot work and are doing all they can to prove it.

22. Two things:
How about?

Unfortunately, our government is now led by the incompetent George W. Bush.

Fragment: Let’s also not forget leading us out of the Great Depression and winning the Cold War.

Better: It was the federal government who led us out of the Great Depression, won two World Wars, led the charge to put a man on the moon and helped to end the Cold War.

26. If it were mine, I would end it with
this, after what you have.

This is the man who told Peggy Noonan in the October 2003 edition of Ladies Home Journal that he and Laura had a good laugh the night of September 11th. How much were you laughing? Maybe that should have been our first clue.

You couldn't wake people up in a more shocking way if they publish your letter and more people learn of this. It can be checked.

The one thing he holds himself out for as something we should be thankful for because he is our terror president. And he has the base level revulsion to have a good laugh on the night of the worst terror in our history. This should sicken people and your LTTE couldn't serve a better purpose.

27. You might also add
something about what we pay taxes for. If they want to "return" America to the land of "rugged individuals" who take care of themselves and don't depend on the government, then by all means lets also get rid of the income tax, etc. You'd need to look it up, but I think federal income tax was started in the 20th century, and I vaguely remember that it was supposed to be a temporary measure. (Anyone know more on that?)

Unfortunately, our government is now led by people with delusions of competence.

Unfortunately, our government is now led by thieves and liars.

Unfortunately, our government is now led by people who appeal to our base instincts, not our better angels.

Edited on Wed May-31-06 11:21 PM by Jazz2006
I've always been an editor at heart :D

Suggestions noted in bold and brackets:

The person who wrote to Speak Out about not expecting the government to take care of us during crisis needs a bit of a history lesson. It was FEMA that won the glowing praise of then-Governor George W. Bush for (its) response to a disaster in Texas. It was the Feds who tracked down, arrested and convicted the terrorists responsible for the first World Trade Center bombing. It is the US government under the CDC (that) leads worldwide response to any (outbreak of disease).

It was the federal government (that) led the charge to put a man on the moon, (won two World Wars, led us out of the Great Depression, and ended the Cold War.)

While it is far from perfect, the government has proven (that)(our country) can (accomplish) many great and wonderful things when it has a capable (leader) at the helm. Unfortunately, our government is now led by George W. Bush.

Just my $0.02 :hi:
