Fox News has LOWEST demo viewership since August of 2001
Perhaps there is justice in the world after all!

(I love the pics in the graphic!)

May #'s: FNC Has Lowest Demo Viewership In "Sales Prime" Since August 2001
Fox News is continuing to lose viewers in the valuable 25-54 demographic. In May 2006, the network delivered its lowest-rated month in "sales prime" since August 2001. "Sales prime" is measured from 7pm to 2am.

"These 7 hours are all sold at prime rates," an insider says. "This is what the business is based on. Their numbers are tracking with Bush's poll numbers... it should be an interesting trend to watch."

In May, FNC averaged 277,000 demo viewers in sales prime -- its lowest in 57 months. The network still beats all the other cable news networks in the time period.

In May, demo viewership for FNC's three primetime programs reached their lowest levels in several years. This chart, provided by CNN, shows the declines:

Is that Greta Van-what's-her-name in the 10:00 slot? Maybe she should do MORE shows about Natalie Holloway, I'll bet THAT would help her ratings. :sarcasm:

8. The last time Faux saw ratings this low . . .
The World Trade Centers were taken down by terrorist attack.

Will something happen now to pump Faux's ratings back up? Or will the network become Rupert Murdoch's millstone, plunging him into bankruptcy?

12. Kind of hard to do since MSNBC isn't on in as many markets
Faux never mentions that when they talk about their ratings - and they never mention that the only people watching them are 100-year-old shut ins and drunks at the bar.

Edited on Fri Jun-02-06 01:24 AM by joefree1
Only 2% of Democrats which viewers were spread among many different new sources. So basically Fox has got the lock-step drone market sewn up.

See the poll here: http://www.opednews.com/articles/genera_rob_kall_060511_poll_3a_2004_election_.htm

with my better half earlier this week. They had the TV on Fox. When the waiter came to take our order, we asked him if he would switch the station. He said he'd take our order first and then ask the manager. We said if you don't switch there will be no order. They switched. I will not watch Fox.

32. Good move.
Myself, I simply like to eat where there is no television on. I frequently eat at a local joint about a half a block from here. They have a television, but I frequently turn it off. So far I've had more support and approval than complaints. When I go in it's sometimes on Fox, but recently its been on other networks more.

26. Here's the May overview:
http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/ratings/may_s_may_2006_vs_may_2005_37712.asp

The following post is based on time period data. Program ratings will come out later today. In the 25-54 demographic, Fox News lost primetime viewers in May 2006, compared to the same month in 2005. Among young viewers, O'Reilly lost 10 percent, H&C lost 18 percent, and Greta lost 22 percent compared to May 2005.

Fox News still won every hour in total viewers and the demo. CNN came closest to beating FNC in the demo at 5pm, when The Situation Room was just 6,000 viewers shy of The Big Story. In the demo, CNN is up compared to the year-ago at 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, and 11pm.

Keith Olbermann beat Paula Zahn in the demo again in May. In the demo, MSNBC is up across the board, except at 6 and 10pm.

Here's a chart, provided by CNN, of the hourly ratings for FNC, CNN, MSNBC, HLN, and CNBC between 4pm and midnight:

28. But the good news for Faux News is
it's still the go-to network if you're advertising Depends or denture cleanser.
Just keep the Mac ads on Olberman's show.
The cranky old man on the porch doesn't want your fancy/schmancy Apple computer ads or any talk about high-speed "internets" access or, heaven forbid, cell phone/itunes silliness. The old rotary phone with the extra long cord and the gramaphone work just fine, thank you very much.

30. So, that's why they are looking for brains now!
"Since many Fox viewers have better-than-average IQs, it hit us that 'showing a little brain' could be just as compelling as 'showing a little leg.' Also, we studied headshots of Edward R. Murrow and concluded that he was not exactly eye candy."

...that stupid network is tanking. I am definitely seeing signs in my town that Bush is no longer popular. The "Impeach" sign by the freeway has been there several weeks & no one has taken it down. If anyone had tried to put a sign like that up even last year, it would've been taken down quickly. Things have changed. So I'm not surprised that FOX isn't doing well. Now, if CNN stopped trying to copy FOX, I would be *very* happy.
