Study: Sexuality might be genetic
--------
The researchers found that individual differences in human sexual desire can be attributed to genetic variations. The study is the first to provide data to show that common variations in the sequence of DNA impact on sexual desire, arousal and function, the researchers said.

The scientists, at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, examined the DNA of 148 healthy male and female university students and compared the results with questionnaires asking for the students' self-descriptions of their sexual desire, arousal and sexual function. They found a correlation between variants in a gene called the D4 receptor and the students' self-reports on sexuality.

1. Uh-oh. They know the source; the cure may be coming shortly later.

2. It means something even more alarming...
A doctor can look at the DNA of the fetus and tell the parents that the kid might be gay. With genetic engineering on the way, they will soon be able to change the gene so the kid is straight.

It will give parents the ability to determine their child's sexuality.

And I think that is probably the least ethic issue dealing with genetic engineering. Genetic engineering is going to be a gigantic social/domestic issue for the next generation of Americans.

3. not necessarily -- sexuality occurs on a continuum.
there are more than likely several genes involved in all of this -- not just one.

i don't think any responsible scientiest will any time in the near future be able to say that this gene or that is the one responsible for sexuality.

they'll come close as in this study.

but even if they went in and experimented on babies -- some of those babies will grow up and fool around in ways that they weren't expected to.

4. No need to worry about that, they have big billboards posting 1-800 #s...
Or, just as probable, they'll open up hunting season...
