BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) -- Gunmen attacked a car belonging to the Russian Embassy in Baghdad on Saturday, killing one diplomat and kidnapping four employees, police and the Russian Embassy said.

The gunmen fired at the car in west Baghdad's upscale Mansour district, witnesses told Iraqi police. The attack occurred near the offices of the Atheer cell phone company, 1st Lt. Thaeir Mahmoud said.

One person was killed, Lt. Col. Falah al-Mohamedawi said. That was confirmed by the Russian Embassy in Baghdad.

''Yes, I can confirm this. One diplomat killed, four employees kidnapped. That's all I can say. No commentary,'' the official told The Associated Press in Moscow. He refused to give his name or elaborate.
