What do the Fundies find so Earth Shatteringly awful about folks Marrying?
Even if they be of the same gender? What apocalyptic catastrophe do they envision in their little biblically cloistered worlds?

Do they imagine the human race vanishing because folks will stop reproducing? Do they imagine that their kid's will be exposed to (gasp!) "different" people?

Or do they hallucinate men lying with beasts out in the barnyard and wedded bliss with a llama?

How exactly will proposing a ban on men or women marrying a person of the same sex help America? How exactly is gay marriage supposedly harming America?

Why the fuck is our ridiculous president taking up prime network time to put forward a doomed and obviously politically timed amendment to the constitution when he's rejected the constitution outright?

Why now? In the middle of his glorious Long War?

These people should be taking some sort of meds to snap them out of their fundie induced stupor.

1. you have no gender indentification -- but it's your weewee or hoohaw
that they are so interested in.

they want you to play with your weewee or hoohaw in proscribed ways -- play with it just like they tell you.

of course if they've got control of your weewee or hoohaw -- they pretty much control the rest.

3. Loss of control
They can't control themselves without the threat of eternal torment (or with it, in most cases) but they're damned sure going to control you. Happiness is something deeply distrusted in fundie churches. Good happiness comes from God, church and fulfillng your role. All other happiness, including any joy felt by non-fundies, is inherently suspect at best and sinful at worst.

4. They think...
that it will give homosexuals greater access to children to molest.

Really. That's what I'M SURE is at the bottom of this.

That and the fact that IF the children aren't molested, they
will think it's OK to be GAY.

They are SICK.

15. The real reason men oppose gay marriage

By Les Veeryl

Legalizing gay marriage will undermine marriage and family for one simple reason: most men find it extremely difficult remaining heterosexual.

Only cultural pressure forces us to seek the company of women and competition with other men drives us to find the most attractive women, just as it drives us to buy the biggest SUV.

This is also why once we have gone to all the trouble seduce a woman, our sexual encounters are so brutal, brief, and disappointing for the woman. As much as we try not to think about it, it’s just not a man.

Most women become unconsciously aware of this over the course of their marriage, which is why they cut their hair progressively shorter and cultivate the physique of John Madden, hoping the resemblance will catch our eye and rekindle our original feigned passion.

The cultural norm of heterosexuality forces us to channel our desires into sports, so we have the excuse to touch each other in violence that society would not allow in love. As we grow older, this pattern continues with male exclusive outings like golf, hunting, and fishing. Wealthy men feel less of a necessity to preserve the façade of woman lovers and have male only clubs, where than can merrily chat naked in steam rooms and smoke cigars.

It is torture enough to be forced by our wives to watch Will & Grace and Queer Eye for the Straight Guy and see the care-free life of abandoning society’s blind devotion to procreation. I have to remind myself that it’s just a TV show, that there aren’t really people like that in the world.

But what if men were allowed to marry?

That could be enough to push many of us over the edge.

If I knew society would tolerate my true orientation, what would stop me from telling that blonde guy at the club that he looks good in the shower, and then asking him out for more than a beer? And unlike a woman, who requires months of pleading and showering with gifts before sex, another man would gladly give it up in the parking lot on the way to get the beer.

What would make my son, a handsome running back who just started shaving his chest, strive to achieve at school and establish a career if he knew instead he could simply find an older sugar daddy to marry who will shower him with gifts and pedicures?

President Bush has proposed banning gay marriage not out of ignorance prejudice or spite, but personal necessity. On a trip to Canada a while back, he said to the Prime Minister’s press secretary:

Well, you got a pretty face. You got a pretty face. You're a good-looking guy. Better looking than my Scott anyway.

and inter-faith marriage, so of course they've got a problem with gay civil unions and gay marriage. Fundies are not functional if they're not hating.

8. I have talked about gay marriage with some older people locally...
who are against it. But when asked:

Should couples (same sex or opposite) be allowed to claim each other on their Federal taxes each year? Yep

Should couples (same sex or opposite) be allowed other 'benefits of marriage'? Yes

But NO to marriage!

Most of these people are not fundies but conservative Rebublicans and much older (70's and even 80's) who have always voted Repug and would never think about voting any other way. They receive the mantra and repeat, I guess. But their heart tells them otherwise even though they will never 'buck the system' to do what their heart tells them. So sad.

10. They've cherry picked a story from the bible again.
Leviticus 18:22
"Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination."

I'm sure no biblical scholar, but I've heard that the bible says the punishment for an abomination is to "stone the person to death".

All those who cherry pick the parts of the bible they want to follow and believe in those literally, will NEVER be persuaded that homosexuality is ever acceptable.

15. That's why I said they CHERRY PICK what they want to believe.
If you can, listen to Bernie Ward on KGO radio on Sunday mornings. Bernie has had this argument with the fundies who call his show. As soon as they state the Leviticus quote about gays, he quotes another line from the same book, like selling your children, or something just as strange, and says "Do you think that's OK too?"

Some of his radio programs get quite amusing, because the fundies always end up looking like fools, and hang up! Bernie is very good at winning arguments with them.

Listen is you can. He's on at 9AM-12noon est, 6AN-9AM PST. www.kgo.com

I always listen to the stream since I'm in Ga. The locals would NEVER let Bernie's show on the air HERE!

subject because he has very few topics he can discuss. This year will be gay marriage, immigration and, possibly, abortion. He has nothing else to use to whip up his base. The war is going lousy, the economy is only good for the investor class, and the scandals are so numerous that it's almost impossible to name them all.

18. it is a reaction to modernity
Fundies recognize that in the future "their kind" (race, religion, whatever) will no longer "rule the world". One way to counter that is with wars of aggression against people of other races or religions. Another way is to insure the increase of the their own kind by outlawing abortion and doing what they can to prevent gay relationships in general. (translate, lots more white christian babies to help keep the balance of power tilted our way.)

I think it is subliminal for most religious people. But it has survival, as they see it, at its core. As have all religions throughout time.

19. It's because
they believe that America is God's chosen people, and if it doesn't live according to God's laws He will withdraw His favours and bestow them on some other nation. America will then no longer be the richest and most powerful country in the world. They will have to give up their resource-guzzling lifestyle -- the SUVs, the McMansions, the right to go on crusade and smite the infidels, all of it. They may even find themselves under foreign rule, just like the Israelites in the Bible...

But why the fuss about gays? Because they have convinced themselves that correct sexual behaviour is the thing God cares about the most, the thing on which His continued favours towards America depends.

22.  A woman in india just married a cobra... and they don't have gay marriage
She married a cobra in a religious ceremony. So that pretty much shoots the entire "if we let gays marry, then people will marry their pets" theory. Do the people fighting gay marriage ever really listen to themselves? Who gives a flying fuck if someone else marries? How does that affect them? If they were concerned that letting people be gay will somehow end our species eventually, then they would care about more pressing threats of extinction.. like global warming.

32. Trying to NOT think of it?
My impression of fundamentalists is that they are obsessed with gay sex and in fact think about it all day long.

I'm a straight guy. I live my life day to day, and I can go many weeks without thinking of gay sex even once, since it isn't part of my life. But not the fundies! The first thing they think of in the morning is the same as the last thing they think of at night: GAY SEX.

Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like there is something creepy about a bunch of intensely Christian zealots obsessed with gay sex (which their Lord and Savior never mentioned once).

30. Don't you know?
If gay people are allowed to marry, next thing you know people will want to marry their brothers/sisters, animals, furniture, extraterrestrials, small appliances and FSM only knows what else. Furthermore, it has been proven time and time again that gay people are incapable of holding long-term relationships, unlike straight people (such as Britney Spears and Renee Zellweger). Nor are they known for remaining monogamous like straight people (such as Jude Law and Brad Pitt). Therefore letting them get married would only be an exercise in futility as well as an affront to a noble and sacred tradition.

Jeebus Gawd does not bat an eyelash at mangled and maimed Iraqi babies.

Jeebus Gawd does not get upset when you leave millions of your citizens stranded in a flood for days.

Jeebus Gawd does not mind if you take his creation and pollute it until it's more toxic than hell.

Jeebus Gawd does not care if the rich take the widows' houses or if they oppress the aliens or even if they refuse to take care of their own children.

Jeebus Gawd does not care about rape, torture, poverty, lying, cheating, stealing.

THE ONLY THING JEEBUS GAWD WATCHES IS: BOYS KISSING EACH OTHER AND ABORTED FETUSES.
