Do you view a withdrawal by Jan 2007, as "cut and run" and if you do
can you explain why?

1. if the "mission accomplished" is true its fine to leave any time
declare victory over the phoney reasons and go home :-)

sadaam, the wmds, and his nucelar program are finished, we WON,
now it's the Iraqis problem.

2. My view
is that I regard withdrawal by 2007 as being later then it should be.

4. Yeah - but the logistics of withdrawal alone would take up to 6 months.

3. I see Jan. 2007 as too many more needless deaths.
Still, it's better than the never-ending slaughter that Bush and his pals envision on their road to empire.

5. Who allowed the insurgency to grow?
Its their fault theyve allowed the insurgency to grow so large and well organised. Its their fault they refused to listen to military experts who warned about sending too few troops into Iraq. Its their fault they failed to read history books on invasions and occupations and their aftermaths.

Now all of a sudden its our fault they failed? What a load of horseshit that bunch is trying to shovel. The country knows who failed.

6. The "Cut & Run" gang can take their places on the front lines
If it is that important to them. I doubt it is, somehow. I am very tired of these uber patriotic folks who have never lifted a finger to defend this Nation, other than pay their taxes and that only with the greatest of cavailing.

9. It's just that it seems every Dem who gets a microphone these days treat
Murtha and Kerry's plans as cut and run, completely ignoring the accelerated DIPLOMACY measures like convening a Dayton Accord type summit amongst all the region's leaders and the leaders of the insurgent groups.

They are PURPOSEFULLY DISTORTING the plans when they omit that crucial aspect, and they end up aligning with the same strategy to marginalize the withdrawal plans as BushInc has been employing.

7. We ought to move all the troops into remote bases.
Lets see if the government can stand without our presence aggravating the situation. If so, great...start the withdrawal process. If Iraq remains destabilized, get UN troops to gradually help maintain the order.

8. Agreed. Remote bases in Texas and then discharge them.
And, then have the UN send troops, if requested, by the government of Iraq.

16. I'm convinced that we are keeping Iraq destabilized to justify our
continued presence. There is no good reason why all troops couldn't be redeployed to remote bases in Iraq this week. Either this proves we are hurting Iraq in their ability to self-govern or there are fundemental social issues that need to be addressed. Either way, we have a short term solution to protect our troops and stop our contribution to the killing. We need to understand if we are the prime mover in the violence.

This administration has no plans on leaving, though. We are there for 1 reason...that huge reserve of oil that they are unlucky to be sitting on top of.

10. Ask them how long before one cuts his losses?
Ten years? Twenty?

Exactly how long do you sacrifice your soldiers and your wealth before it becomes too costly to keep up the charade of waiting til we "win?"

You cant win Iraq. All you can do is leave and hope they can settle the civil war that we started up again. Were just in the middle of a thousand year war . Bush was just ignorant and arrogant enough to believe we could settle a conflict thats been going on since Jesus was a baby.

11. We don't need Iraq anymore.
Edited on Sun Jun-04-06 08:45 PM by Cleita
We have a new enemy on the south border and the National Guard is going there to keep us safe. Troops will be coming home incrementally before the November election. Then a big announcement will be made how we won everything and Jesus told us this was how it would be. After that we won't be hearing much about Iraq, or the fact that it's turned into a fundamentalist Islam state because it's not important anymore. Oh, we're still in charge of the oil.

too little, too late.

Now March 2003 -- that would have been timely.

13. Cut our losses now, and get the hell outa Dodge!
All troops from Afghanistan and Iraq should be returned home immediately, all mercenaries should have their employment terminated, and all bases vacated IMMEDIATELY.

The war is based totally on a pack of lies, and the longer we stay the worse it gets.

18. "cut & run" is spin, pure an simple.
No one is proposing the US "cut and run."

The position to redeploy US troops by 2007 is based on the fact that the "mission" in Iraq was never adequately explained to justify US troops remaining there for as long as they have. It's based on an accurate assessment of the situation: the US has no good role to play in Iraq. You can't cut and run from a mission that has never been clearly defined.

21. That's my point, Burt - but even other Democrats are using that spin
against Murtha and Kerry's withdrawal plans - and completely omitting Kerry's aspect of intense diplomacy ala Dayton Accord, where all regional and insurgent leaders sit down and get to a point where they agree on enough that Americans can even begin to withdraw.

Amazingly, some Dems are saying we CAN'T do their plans and then mischaracterize them to make their case.

20. It's really just coming to our senses.
Yes it's cutting and running. If the mission was to spread democracy the mission is unaccomplished. What's most likely to come will be a civil war. How bloody that is will be anyone's guess. What results from all of this is not going to be what was intended which was an American friendly state to oppose Iran. So the whole thing was a waste of time, money and lives. It was a bad idea and we're paying for it. Cutting and running is going to be the only thing we've done right since the fall of Baghdad.
