Bush Military History Project #5
Journal entry #5
This is being written as a journal in democraticunderground.com and cross posted at Daily Kos and Myleftwing. I can be reached at concernedexlrrp@hotmail.com.
Paul Lukasiak’s links on the Awol project no longer go anywhere which makes it harder but not impossible to demonstrate the paperwork involved in this. I urge anyone following this series to either print all of Bush’s papers out and laboriously put them in order—something the Bush administration never did—or buy the book Unfit Commander by Glenn Smith which gives all of Bush’s documents in chronological order. I will be giving page numbers of UC when I can’t supply an internet link and describing the documents.

In BMHP#4 I pointed out some of the evasions of the Bush administration in regards the CBS memos and asked the question: "Why would they be so evasive about a record they say theyre proud of? Why would an Honest Man do that?"
The answer is that the CBS memos, if real, show crimes done by Bush's superiors in order to get him an "Honorable discharge" after he refused to take his physical--a refusal that should have resulted in disciplinary action but--illegally-- did not. If real, they are right from the Horses mouth: Killian. Its what he would have saved to cover his ass in case the falsification of documents he did came back to screw him. If theyre false, its what he WOULD have kept. Whether real or forged, the CBS memos together is what Killian would have saved to prove that what he did was at the directions of his superiors. If real, the existence of the suspension order and the physical order proves someone "Cleansed" Bush's files, as has been alleged in a sworn statement by Bill BUrkett.
In order to understand that, I must start by explaining what was really going on in 1972 at Ellington AFB. I'm going to explain first, then go over it detail by detail. This will be a long post, I may break it into parts.
"George Bush gamed his way out of the military" We've all heard that , but what does that actually mean?
In the spring of 1972, George Bush could not take his annual physical, no doubt because it would reveal drug use, probably cocaine. If Bush had a dirty return on a drug test, automatic procedures wold have resulted that would have gotten him booted out of the TXANG in disgrace and out of any future political plans forever. It wouldn't have helped GHWB's career any either.(by then UN Reprentative but still hugely powerful in Texas politics).
The drug abuse is easily believable by crosschecking Bush's bios--these were Wasted Days And Wasted Nights for George Bush, hanging out at the pool at the Chateau Dijon, the swinging singles apartment complex in Houston where he lived. If there's ANY time that Bush would have done coke in his career, it would have been here and there's plenty of rumor about this.
George Bush has never denied that he has taken drugs just like he has never denied that the CBS papers are real.
The reason not to take the physical must have been so compelling that George Bush was willing to give up his career as a pilot in order to evade taking it-- a career he enjoyed and worked hard at. It was his only source of income outside an allowance from GHWB and he got a lot of perks out of it, including the dash and status of a jet pilot. Why would he give this up,unless there were some VERY compelling reason? Like the fear of a dirty drug test return?
At any rate, George Bush chose not to take his required phyaical. He'd taken this same physical the two previous years just fine but this one was no go. Its important to knowthat this year they started testing the TXANG for drugs. He must have told his superiors about this in advance and that is the significance of the first CBS Memo: http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2004-09-09bushdocs.pdf (Page 2)
Take a look at this--why would anyone forge it? Its a simple "What's up with Bush and Bath?" from Killian to Harris, Bush's senior pilot. Why would anyone try to forge this? Its not incriminating at all untill you realize that both Bush and Bath were later suspended for failing to take their physical ( ) and that this memo is the first proof we have that Killian knew what was coming in advance. What was Harris's answer to this? also, did anybody ever check Bath's papers? What typewriter were THEY written on, was Bath ordered to take the physical and what does HIS suspension order look like? Hello MSM? Reality calling.
The first CBS memo is a clear indication of the emerging problem and it was shortly after this that Bush started flying in a 2 seat trainer again. The logical surmise here is that Killian found out about the drug use and never put Bush in a position to fly a jet by himself again. (flight logs available at: http://www.awolbush.com/kerry-vs-bush.asp )
So the rich and powerful George Bush's son couldn't take the physical and his command knew it--what to do, what to do for his commanders? Here's where it gets dirty.
Go back to BMHP#2 and look at the explanation of the regulations. Look at the regulations now: http://www.glcq.com/regs/35-13_1971.pdf
"AFM 35-13, para 2-29m: ...All rated officers on flight status must accomplish a medical examinstion annually or biannually (flight surgeons...Failure to accomplish a required medical examination disqualifies the officer from flight duty and he will be suspended effective the first day of the month following his birth month, citing this paragraph as authority.
1) The local commander who has authority to convene a Flying Evaluation board will direct an investigation as to why the individual failed to accomplish the medical examination. After reviewing the findings of the investigation, the local commander may convene a Flying Evaluation Board or forward through command channels a detailed report of the circumstances which resulted in the officers failure to accomplish the examination, along with the recommendation that the suspension be removed.
2) The individual's major command will forward the report along with the command recommendation to USAFMPC/DPMAJD Randall Air Force Base Texas 78108 for FINAL determination." (emphasis in the original)
AFM35-13, para 2-10b: "Particular care must be taken to insure that the individual receives flying staus orders on or before the effective date..."
AFM35-13, para 2-10b2: "CBPO-SA will insure that the unit personnel record copy of an aeronautical order which ....imposes or revokes a suspension...will be acknowledged by the person concerned to indicate time and date of the receipt of orders..."

When Bush refused to take the physical, his superiors were required by this regulation to suspend him on Aug 1st, 1972. Part of the process in doing this was to convene a flight board and discover the reason for the failure to acomplish. Part of the process is also to order the refusee to take the physical--that way its official that he didn't and is a lead in to other charges. Thats what the order to take the physical was about and if you look at it (refrence given above, page 3) You see that Killian is referring to AFM 35-13 from the beginning--thats what page they were all on, including the suspension order and the 2 confirmations--they ALL mention procedures under AFM 35-13 para 2-29m. The procedure under AFM 35-13 is what Killian is going to follow.
Killian was required to do this, he had no choice. Failure to do so on his part was dereliction of duty. And failure to enforce this was dereliction of duty on the part of Bush's whole chain of command
The first scheme they came up with was to try to get Bush transferred out of their unit ASAP, because if he stayed in their unit they were required to convene a flight board and discipline him. If they could get him out of Dodge before the smoke cleared they could phony up the paperwork and everybody could go into the I see NOTHINK! phase.
So they tried to get him transferred . (Page 251 UC)
They had Bush “fluff” that request, he twice put down that he had the MOS 1125 B—and F86 pilot (an obsolete airplane) to make it look more reasonable. Look at the date of the transfer request: 24 May, 1972. George Bush quit flying on April 16th, it was his last paid day for over 6 months (the importance of this will be shown) so when Bush quit flying, there WAS no transfer to Alabama in the pipeline as the Republicans want you to believe. The transfer to Alabama was done after the fact to cover the failure to take the suspension.
The Republicans want you to believe that the command told Bush: “You’re such a good puilot you don’t need to fly anymore. Your jet’s going RIF anyway (reduction in force, i.e., obsolescence) That is a complete lie, completely off the facts. Bushy’s superiors wanted him to stay flying. In the Officers Effectiveness Report of that year, (UC page 245,) dated 26 May 1972, Killian and Harris say : “Lt Bush should be retained in his present assignment.” His superiors didn’t want him to go, they wanted him to dtay in his present assignment: flying F102a’s out of Ellington.
When the transfer request was turned down, Killian had no choice but to suspend him on August 1st—it was his duty as Bush’s commander.. So now Killian, and Hodges were required to convene a flight evaluation board and continue the disciplinary procdecdurs for Bush.
This they apparently never did. And the person who would know for dropdead sure why they didn’t is then-Col Bobby Hodges. Mapes has an extensive interview with Hodges in truth and Duty but she never got around to asking him the specifics of Bush’s suspension—like why Bush’s flight board never happened.
Hodges is one of the most central characters in this scam, he HAS to know everything. He signed a confirmation of Killian’s order and was the: “local commander who has authority to convene a Flying Evaluation board.” But for some reason, the entire media—including Mapes, and CBS in their “investigation” never bothered to ask him about the specifics of Bush’s suspension. (They never asked Bush either) Hodges is in this up to his neack and if all the irregularities and illegalities are discovered, he could lose all his pension and benefits, maybe even do jail time. (Staudt too, Bush probably not)
When Bush gamed the system he didn’t do it by himself, he had a lot of willing help from his commanders, who no doubt counseled him every step of the way. For this reason, AWOL charges don’t really work for Bush. He was absent from duty illegally all right but his superiors knew where he was all the time. One of his favorite talking pointys is that he was just following what his superiors toldf him and he’s probably right. It will probably be his main line of defense should this ever be discovered. But what they told him to do was illegal.
What they told him to do was run and hide (“ghost,” in the 60s vernacular)—we’ll take care of it all for you. There’s lots of scandals in the TANG about falsified documents other than this, it was a corrupt organization.
And what they did was falsify his papers.
The most easily observable falsification ( but there are more) was done in the OER for 1973. (UC Page 270, 271) “….Lt Bush has not been observed at this unit during the time of the report…He cleared this base on 15th May 1972….”
This is a completely false statement, made for fraudulent reasons. Bush was absolutely still in their command untill his 2d request for transfer was approved. (Page 261, UC, dated Sep 6, 1972. It is signed full signature by both Killian and Hodges. This is a smoking gun for them both. It means they know the quoted sentences above are absolutely false. Bush was in every way legally under their command untill that date. They Suspended him on August 1st. There are 10 documents that put Bush in the 111th until Sep 6th—the day his commander signed the transfer OK.
That makes that report absolutely false and knowingly false. And there’s a tie in in that false report to the CBS Memos. (“…I will backdate but not rate…” Jerry Killian) saying exactly what they did.
More to come.
