In other news . . .
Today the President will address Congress and various activist groups on the one vital issue facing America and the Republican Congress will take the next week to debate it. Not the war on Terror, not jobs creation, not immigration, not atrocities in Iraq. Nope, none of those. The one issue of supreme importance to Republicans is . . . Gay Marriage.

Meanwhile in other news:

A woman is suing a New York hospital because they delayed surgery on her son until he died. They were awaiting Medicaid payment approval.

The Pentagon is about to release the new Army Field manual. They’ve removed the Geneva Conventions detainee treatment rules from it. The ones that address cruel and humiliating treatment.

The National Hurricane Center will lose one of its most powerful forecasting tools. Florida State University has sold its powerful forecasting software to private industry and the NHC will have to buy the information in the future. Just in time for the 2006 season.

They are still finding bodies in New Orleans nine months after Katrina. FEMA still has trailers parked in Arkansas.

Remember Somolia and Blackhawk down? Remember the warlords dragging bodies of US soldiers through the streets? The Pentagon is giving those same warlords $100,000 a month in an attempt to keep Islamic radicals from establishing a foothold there.

Oil just hit $73 a barrel, so expect gas prices to follow.

The Department of Homeland Security has reduced funding for security in New York and Washington DC and shifted it to . . . corn fields in Illinois. Seem that neither city has any “major landmarks” to attract terrorists.

It’s nice to know that Congress and the President are hard at work on things that matter.
