Couldn't someone smuggle box cutters over the Mexican or Canadian border?

4. Actually, I think we are. No one is going to be able to hijack a plane
without fighting all the passengers to death first.

7. Agreed

On 9/11 a group of US citizens on Flight 93 showed the terrorists that we westerners with our liberal values were NOT afraid to fight back even knowing it would doom us.

By at least 9/14, with all civilian flights still grounded, our president showed the terrorists that our politicians ARE afraid to take risks.

Nice leadership there.

There have been several examples of passengers stepping in since then.

6. I have a large, double-bladed Olfa Knife with thumbwheels on
each blade.

Several times over the last couple of years, I have accidentally left it in a laptop case and flown with it. Every time was through a major airport.

On one of those occasions TSA confiscated a 5/32" Allen wrench. Claimed it could ostensibly be used to "dismantle the cabin of the aircraft in flight". No kidding. I have yet to find an Allen screw in an airplane cabin.

9. Yours is more dangerous
than my example! When I flew to Calgary from Manchester, England in April, I had a very long, very sharp nail file in my handbag but didn't realize it until I was already on the ground in Canada. I don't think anybody could hijack a plane with a nail file, but then again I never figured it could be done with box cutters either.

I was just surprised the x-rays didn't pick it up.

8. No one needs to bring anything on a plane to have a weapon in flight.
Only stupid criminals couldn't find something onboard to use as a weapon if they wanted one. And, thanks to general paranoia, now they need only incapacitate the Marshall onboard to get hold of a firearm. Or they could simply open a door, for fuck's sake.

We were NEVER safe from terrorists on planes, and we probably never will be as long as someone is willing to die to do the job. And this piece of shit administration never intended to properly fund any attempt to make us so.

Security is an illusion, a lie we tell ourselves so that we can go to sleep at night. The best you can do is make it so much of a hassle to breach your defenses that offenders decide you're not worth the effort. However, there is always someone more persistant than you.

To answer your question, though, yes, we are safe from box cutters now. However, if they are in this country illegally, they may be gay, which threatens the cardboard fabric of married boxes. And Jesus. And the Bible.
