Does the Confederate flag depict a "theme of unity" to black people?
http://www.suntimes.com/output/news/cst-nws-brochure05.html

Symbol of hatred on brochure?

<snip>On the front cover is a collage of photos encircling one of a birthday cake. Among the photos is one of a little girl at Naper Settlement's Civil War Days. The girl is holding an American flag -- and wearing a hat with a Confederate flag.

"At first you think, 'Oh, a cute little girl,' " said Napervile resident Sherid Smith, who is black. "When you really look at it -- 'cute little girl with a Confederate hat on.' I was shocked."

She called the mayor's office, then Gary Karafiat, the city's community relations manager. Karafiat told her a five-person editing team reviewed the text and photos in the guide. With the theme of unity, the committee wanted to depict on the cover large community scenes and activity. The photo of the girl illustrates the unity between the North and the South, he said. "We had no interest in insulting anybody," Karafiat said.

I am white and I don't see no damn unity in it either.

1. The only "Unity" there...
...is against black people.

2. I'm white and a southerner
When I see a Confederate flag on someone's clothing or vehicle, I think the same thing I think when I see someone spit tobacco juice out the window of his pickup truck.

I think, "I don't want to be 'unified' with that person."

And yes, I have ancestors who fought for the Confederacy. But that was then, and this is now.

3. Are there any recent pictures of a black person, male or female,
PROUDLY waving a Confederate flag? Any version?

5. Oddly enough....
Penn & Teller had a bit with a black guy that dresses up in Confederate Uniform and carries a Confed flag-the VA battle flag, that is-to a monument in Atlanta, I believe it was.

Showed it on their show "Bullshit" as an example of someone who's a bit conflicted about reality. :)
