Oregon teen gets detention for hugging her boyfriend
5/17/2005 10:23:00 AM
By Associated Press - Chicago Sun-Times

BEND, Ore. -- A 14-year-old girl received detention over a lingering hug she gave her boyfriend at school, infuriating her mother and putting school officials on the defensive.

School officials said they had warned Cazz Altomare that lingering hugging was unacceptable, but she continued to disobey the rule when she received the detention earlier this year.

'It's not like we are the hug Nazis'

10. It's the irony
Which you obviously get.

But the real irony is the teen hugging story...from the Cook County Republican website! :)

11. I Don't Believe How Absurd Some Of These School Rules Are Now.
When my boys become school age, I'll tear the fuck into any authority there that has the nerve to discipline my child in such ways.

As far as the photoshop pic goes, I knew your intent completely :) My comments were for those in this thread that seemed to react in a way that showed they thought it was a real pic LOL

14. hate to plop a turd in the party punch, but.....
it's pretty obvious that nobody here works in a junior high school, for one example. I've heard what goes on in our local high schools along these lines, and it isn't pretty.

gets VERY aggravating with all the hugging in the halls. many kids HUG every time they see each other. six, seven, EIGHT times a day

if they aren't separated, it sometimes goes beyond hugging

what do all you experts suggest be done?

huh?

what are the EXACT facts of this little story?

19. Yeah, no kidding. Schools do have right to ask that conduct codes
are followed. And those policies are in place for the protection of the students as much as it is the schools, by the way.

I always hate it when people on this site don't bother to consider the responsibility a school has to make and adhere to...rules. And ask the student body to do the same. A middle school isn't a website, afterall, there are guidelines and boundaries for what is and isn't appropriate behavior. It's even more disgusting to me when posters justify their opinion that a school admin's position is "oppressive," "unfair" or "an overreaction" with comments like, "Well, in my day, that was no big deal!" when in 'their day,' it was also 'no big deal' for people to be banned from schools on the basis of ethnicity and/or skin color, for women to have even less legal control over their own medical decisions than they do now, and for a person who had been adopted to be barred from seeing his or her legal birth certificate. The past wasn't exactly the Age of Enlightenment, you know?

20. You said a lot here that I didn't say
I said nothing here that denies the right of junior high schools or high schools to implement codes of conduct, not did I say that they should not.

What's your beef?

Respectfully, I don't understand what you're trying to imply here.

Words such as "hate" and "disgusting" and "unfair" and "overreaction" don't appear anywhere in this thread, save your post.

Seriously, where did you get these terms from this thread?

Are you just making stuff up? I think you are.
