Was Marx the Salman Rushdie of his Era?
Edited on Tue Jun-06-06 09:17 AM by Boojatta
If you oppose Bolshevism, then you may wish to consider some things that might have contributed to the Bolshevik movement in Russia:

1. If people know how to read, then there is a danger that some of the books they read might promote policies that you don't like. Interestingly, there have been rumors to the effect that Rushdie's book was actually written by a Jew. Death threats from Iran could be based merely on Rushdie's willingness to allow his name to be used.

2.
Vladimir Lenin arrived in Petrograd on April 3 aboard a sealed train that had taken him from Switzerland through Germany.

Is it unreasonable to suspect that some German government authorities authorized the sealed train to go through Germany?

Hitler expressed concern about Bolshevism. What did Hitler say about identifying and punishing those people who had authorized Lenin's sealed train to go through Germany?

1. If I recall, the German government conspired with Lenin
They would give him safe passage to Russia and in return Lenin would stage a coup and take Russia out of the war. And those two events did occur.

If this scenario is correct, it might be one of the biggest blunders in history. No Lenin, no Russian Revolution (Lenin felt just a year earlier that Communism would not come to Russia in his lifetime). No revolution, no Soviet Union. No USSR, no international communism. No communism, less chance of the National Socialists in Germany seizing power as they could not use communism as a bogeyman. No Nazis, less chance of WWII. No WWII, no division of Europe and the Cold War. No Cold War, less chance of WWIII happening (and far, far less chance we could be having this conversation in Russian)

It's possible that without Lenin going to Russia, Karl Marx could have been all but forgotten from history by now, except by economic theorists.

I'm not sure what Hitler did to the German officials who authorized this action, when he came to power 16 years later. And as far as I know, Marx received no death threats.

2. I can't work out what you're trying to say about Rushdie
Do you really think that rumour about Satanic Verses (I presume you mean that book, rtaher than all his others) being written by a Jew is true? If so, why?

And I don't see any parallel with Marx. Are you claiming Marx didn't write his book(s) either? Where does Lenin and the sealed train come into the comparison etween Marx and Rushdie?

3. "sealed train come into the comparison between Marx and Rushdie"
The thread is based on this: "If you oppose Bolshevism, then you may wish to consider some things that might have contributed to the Bolshevik movement in Russia."

I chose a thread title based on part one, but the OP has two parts. The title gives a hint, but you have to read the body to get the whole story.

4. You make no sense whatsoever
You refer to a claimed rumour about Rushdie with no apparent foundation whatsoever, and then think this somehow links him to a 19th century economist and philosopher. You then witter on about a bit of 20th century history.

Is English your first language?

5. "You make no sense whatsoever"
Please, let's discuss the Original Post rather than the Original Poster.

The Original Post is divided into two parts: "1" and "2". Had "1" and "2" been posted as separate threads, would they make no sense whatsoever?

6. OK, the Original Post makes no sense whatsoever
Part 1 would make no sense on its own. Part 2 seems to be a minor historical question, answered in reply #1. But the sealed train has nothing to do with the title of the thread. It is generally known that the German government, at war with Russia, allowed the train through its territory to stir up trouble in Russia, with the hope the Russian government would fall - which it did.

7. I'm not getting this either.
If it's any consolation, it's not just you. :D
