Today is D-Day. Was it really "a war with no ambiguity or lies".
Was it really "a war with no ambiguity or lies".
Or did the wizards of media and information do a better job of keeping the pooch away from the curtain (re. Toto and The Wizard of Oz)
No television then. Only network radio.
No independent media.
Without television Vietnam would have been "a war with no ambiguity or lies".
With the "liberal mass media" locked up by the corporate boot clackers this war would also be "a war with no ambiguity or lies" if it weren't for the internet.
I think to wish for a kinder gentler war of the past without all the hassle of "factual information" is to wish for life in Oz. And I do not mean down under.
I wasn't there. But my dad and about ten uncles were and none of them thought any other thoughts about the war than the ones that the good old USA gave them.
Sacrilegious speech. Perhaps. Perhaps not.

2. How knows what might have been. But to say
'Without television Vietnam would have been "a war with no ambiguity or lies' discounts what impact the comments of returning servicemen would have held.

WWII was no different than all other wars.

5. Of course not. Our side produced propaganda.
And many veterans suffered mentally afterwards--war is never pretty.

But we went to war because we were attacked at Pearl Harbor. And we, with our Allies, ended Nazi Germany.

I think our participation was worth it.

6. Don't confuse nostalgia with what actually went on at the time
The idea that everybody just lined up behind the war isn't exactly accurate - there was more of a difference of opinion than we remember.

What distinguishes WWII from Vietnam, or Korea, or Iraq or WWI for that matter, was that we had Hitler as an enemy and the united states was attacked first.

Im not exactly sure what your point is, actually.

7. War is never good...but sometimes is necessary...
Our involvement in WWII was necessary.

8. Of course there was ambiguity and lies --
but the core of it is that the axis powers had a real bad habit of invading other countries, overthrowing their governments and installing regimes friendly to themselves so they could exploit those countries resources.

The question is, whose side is the US on now?

9. So many wars throughout history have been all about controlling
resources, and "land-grabs." WWII will forever be seen as a necessary war, and a good thing the Allies won. Regardless of the ambiguity at the time, WWII is in the small category of "good war."
