Just received this prayer request for our soldiers.........
Prayer request . URGENT

According to the weather reports, it is my understanding that it is 122 degrees in Iraq right now - and the low will be 111! Our troops need our prayers for strength, endurance, and safety. If it be God's will, give these men and women the strength they need to prevail.

I am sorry but I am not breaking this one.....Let us pray.

Prayer chain for our Military...please don't break it...
Please send this on after a short prayer.

Pray for our soldiers...

Prayer

"Lord, please hold our troops in your loving hands. Protect them as they protect us. Bless them and their families for the selfless acts they perform for us in our time of need. Please protect the President and our military leaders and give them wisdom in this most difficult time of war. I ask this in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior. Amen."

Prayer Request: When you receive this, please stop for a moment and say a prayer for our troops around the world.

There is nothing attached.... Just send this to all the people in your address book. Do not let it stop with you, please....Of all the gifts you could give a US Soldier, Sailor, Airman, Marine & others deployed in harm's way, Prayer is the very best one!!!!!

1. Reason?
For posting this? To get people to pray? To point out how patently *ridiculous* a chain letter like this is?

4. Pray? Please don't assume that those of us on this board foster
your supernatural beliefs. You go ahead and pray all you want. I refuse to waste my time that way. Now excuse me, but I going to call my congressional representative and ask that he demand that our troops come home now -- that's a better use of my time.

12. I don't know
If you meant to reply to me or the OP.

I'm a radical atheist disgusted by what religions around the world have wrought on society. I was looking for a clarification by the original poster. Not only do I find these chain letters laughable, but I find them insulting in the way everyone assumes every single person they sent them to will comply.

I'm one of those atheists who the theists hate because I want god out of government, period. No school prayer, no in god we trust on our money, no wars for religion. Demand the conmmission of the military assholes who try to make their platoons conform to their religion.

I almost can't even discuss this issue, I get so angry. Keep your religion out of my life!

16. Gasbee, I was responding to the OP and can't agree with you more
as I, too, have no room for the irrational, righteous religious zealots.

5. I'm not a religious person
BUT I live in Yuma, AZ where the temperatures can equal those in Iraq. I feel for our troops who have to endure the killing temps. Most of them don't have access to AC or a swimming pool, either so my prayers, such as they are, go out to all of our military over there.

Bullshit. A fucking one-way ticket home is the best gift you could give our soldiers.

Cheers

3. The best gift...
.. is to get rid of these neocons in our government.

I think opposing this war is better than prayer.

9. Can't we do both - pray and oppose?
Somehow, I find DU not quite as tolerant as I had believed we were.I haven't been inside a church for almost 50 years, but I don't look down on people who do attend church on a regular basis.

21. Last time I looked, DU wasn't a CHURCH....
Don't we have a room for prayers?

I don't "look down on people who do attend church...",
I just get bugged to be exhorted to pray in a public
arena like DU.

11. Not all of the troops fall under your broad brushing.
The US armed forces have been filling the ranks with victims of an economic draft.

13. Alright...
How dare ANYONE request a "prayer" from me???It assumes the following....
A.I am too stupid to realize on my own that serving in the middle east is unpleasant/life threatening...
B.And it's urgent????You worship an omniscient God that needs me to kneel and implore NOW-it wouldn't be enough that when the situation YOUR God is aware of is made evident to me that I say "Shit-help them!"
C.And I should pray for a president who lied to start this????

Well, excuse me.....I would sooner pray for genital boils...IF I pray,I pray for this-Bring them home.Let ALL our leaders be judged as they should at the International court.Let all enlisted men be solaced by the fact that they were sent by a criminal regime....Bless the beasts and children-the dogs who gnaw at corpses and those who survive with "bad" memories...what exists we created...

14. Prayer won't help them. Stopping this godawful war will.
Instead of sitting around with hands together praying - write, call and demand an immediate withdrawal from Iraq. Then do what you can to elect Dems in November. Then demand investigations of Bushco, then impeach the bastards.

We have a lot of work to do over the next couple of years - praying is not the best gift.

15. If I was to pray, I'd pray they all get discharged and get real jobs.
That's what I hoped, if not prayed, for when I spent my time shootin' off guns and waliking around in cadence with the other poor slobs.

20. Send back Twain's War Prayer....
"O Lord our Father, our young patriots, idols of our hearts, go forth to battle -- be Thou near them! With them -- in spirit -- we also go forth from the sweet peace of our beloved fire sides to smite the foe. O Lord our God, help us to tear their soldiers to bloody shreds with our shells; help us to cover their smiling fields with the pale forms of their patriot dead; help us to drown the thunder of the guns with the shrieks of their wounded, writhing in pain; help us to lay waste their humble homes with a hurricane of fire; help us to wring the hearts of their unoffending widows with unavailing grief; help us to turn them out roofless with little children to wander unfriended the wastes of their desolated land in rags and hunger and thirst, sports of the sun flames of summer and the icy winds of winter, broken in spirit, worn with travail, imploring Thee for the refuge of the grave and denied it -- for our sakes who adore Thee, Lord, blast their hopes, blight their lives, protract their bitter pilgrimage, make heavy their steps, water their way with their tears, stain the white snow with the blood of their wounded feet! We ask it, in the spirit of love, of Him Who is the Source of Love, and Who is the ever-faithful refuge and friend of all that are sore beset and seek His aid with humble and contrite hearts. Amen."

Available everywhere... I got it at http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/warPrayer.html

Oh... and fuck them and their prayer for lumping our troops in with the Satanic assholes who sent them into that hell.
