Solving the "marriage crisis".....
Edited on Tue Jun-06-06 12:06 PM by SoCalDem
ALL marriages should be civil unions, and if people WANT the religious blessing, they can do the church-thing..

The state has given the ministers/priests/pastors/reverends the "power" to execute LEGAL marriages in addition to having them sanctioned by god..The secular realm does not confer religiosity to marriages, because they are LEGAL marriages.. The fact that the churches enjoy the abiliy to confer legality AND divine sanction at the same time is a perk.. The church should stay OUT of the contractual/secular areas of marriage.

It does not diminish MY 36+ yr marriage if two gay people I don't even know want to me married as well..

This whole brou-ha-ha is about $$$$$$$$$$$... not souls..

Republicans always cloak their issues with religion, but underneath....theyare always about money...

There is comfort to them in knowing that two SINGLE people who live together cannot access spousal benefits $$$$$$....and will have to hire specialists and lawyers to try to protect their property after they are gone..

Survivorship through marriage is an automatic thing for most married people, but withour that document, it becomes a maze of some difficulty

The social security thing looms large too.. Millions of single people, paying in forever, and no spouse or children collecting their benefits is something the GOP likes very much...
