I was just interviewed by CBS News at my polling place in CA-50.
It really is getting a lot of attention in the national media. The interviewer asked a bunch of questions, starting with something like "Why did you come out to vote in this election?" Right off the bat, I identified myself as a dedicated Democrat who always votes, but I said I knew this was a key election because Democrats need to take the House in November. He asked questions about Duke Cunningham, e.g., how did I feel about him ("I was appalled"); Was I affected by his crocodile tears? ("No. Too little, too late. What he did was horrible.") How long did I live in this district ("Over 20 years") Did I ever think this district would be competitive? ("Not until recently, but it is turning.") Blah blah blah.

1. Uh-oh . . . now they'll have an excuse to cook the vote . . .
Exit polls show Busby in the lead 1-0!

commited fraud against the government and fraud with the Department of Defense. He should be executed."

9. It was very slow, bu t many Busby voters are voting by absentee
ballot. The biggest problem was parking. My polling place is at a Botanical Garden who happened to have a "free admission" day and the parking lot was overflowing. The woman behind me in line said she almost decided to not vote, thinking the lines would be really long.

After I voted, I spoke to the election officials about it (who agreed we needed signs at the front entrance, saying "don't worry, there's parking for voting..." I also called the Busby campaign and told them about the problem.

14. "Free admission day"?? WTF??
On ELECTION DAY???

Whats up with that? I wonder how many people didn't vote because of the parking problems.

Smells fishy to me.

15. No, it apparently happens one Tuesday each month, and it's a
very popular spot. There were tons of parents with little kids. Free admission is a good deal. Now that I know there is such a monthly special, I may drop by myself next month.

The first thing I thought when I saw the full parking lot was that there were huge numbers of people voting and I would be waiting in line for hours. Then, a second later, I realized how ridiculous that was. We'll be lucky if we get the high 30's in voter turnout.

22. I would think that for 1 day
they could help the cause of democracy.
Or, that the elections supervisor would have thought that there *might* be a bit of a problem.
Just doesnt sit right with me, another story of a voting problem that could have been taken care of, with a little foresight.

I don't trust republicans with ANYTHING.

24. I voted earlier and have been poll walking and talked to Francine at lunch
Edited on Tue Jun-06-06 04:00 PM by calipendence
I went ahead and voted write-ins against Bonnie Dumanis and the other Republican running for treasurer for "Paper Ballots Only". I figure if enough of us vote for that, perhaps we might trigger a hand recount, which might be good to prevent any chicanery with the paper ballots if they're exposed to a hand recount.

So far the count seems low turnout overall, but in the precinct I walked, the poll count for Dems voting for Francine was around 11% already at 10:00 AM and for all voters was probably less than 5%. So, those of you who haven't voted there, go out and JUST DO IT! If there's low overall turnout, that is an opportunity to make a difference! Vote her in!

Well, gotta run and do more work! You probably won't hear from me in a while again until later this evening... Hopefully a happy man!
