Bush's Troubles Shake the GOP Base
Both Moderate and Conservative Partisans Grow Restless
June 6, 2006

As public approval of George W. Bush languishes at all-time low levels, supporters of the president are increasingly hard to find. In the months following his re-election, roughly half of the country rated Bush's job performance favorably. Today only a third of Americans do so, while more than half (56%) disapprove of his performance. These latest figures are based on a Pew Research Center survey conducted April 27-May 22, among a national sample of 3,204 adults, a large enough survey to allow for a more detailed breakdown of where and how opinion has changed since the election.

8. it's not that deep
just hoping it wasn't going to be a trend. Chimp has been losing steadily, an average of at least a point, in the past couple of polling periods.

However, they are grasping at straws, making it look as if jr is on the upswing. jr isn't on the upswing.

3. Since One in Ten...
people tends to be utterly devoid of... admirable intellect, this won't be even approaching reasonable until it's 90% Strongly Disapproves with 100% Overall Disapproval. Only then will we be able to say America has (mostly) faced reality.

Then again, Republicans tend to lie. Lie to the country, lie to themselves... so they might be expected to lie on polls--just to make their party look better than it is... so it might well be that Bush has significantly lower marks than even the polls reflect!

11. And Pew Has, IMO, The Best Polling Methodology
I'm biased, because i know people there, but there are REAL statisticians and social scientists. Smart, dedicated, and believe in the work. But, i think they have the best methodology for stratified randomization, and the best justification of their strata.
