Links/tips to search DU archives, please?
Edited on Wed Jun-07-06 10:32 PM by Poll_Blind
I keep trying to search the archives by clicking the advanced link on the search form but, and I'm doing and author-based search, nothing comes up. I eventually gave up and tried Skinner and myself and they don't report back anything. I've been trying to use this form, off and on, for at least a few months without getting it to work.

   What am I doing wrong?

If Author searches don't work, what does work when searching the archives?

Much thanks, this has been a real problem for me for a while...

PB

1. It's Really Easy

First, make sure the also search the archives checkbox is checked.

Make sure you spell the author's name right

Make sure you leave the keyword field blank in order to get everything.

Make sure you put search subject and message.

Make sure you pick entire thread and replies.

Make sure the date ranges are set appropriately

Make sure the pick a forum box is set to the big 6 (big forums-conference).

That should get ya started.

2. Help, please!
A few months ago, a repost of a thread was up that was in response to a "funniest thread ever on DU". It was about someone who had acquired a strange looking animal after the death of an uncle. The writer was trying to identify the animal. The thread was a couple of hundred messages long and was hilarious. In addition to being strange and ugly, the animal would go out at night and come home smelling like booze and cigarettes. Ring any bells? I don't know how to find it. I would love to read it again.

I wrote in haste earlier. He's not homely at all. Distinctive looking sort of fellow. By the way, I think he and my ex-husband were probably related. Luckily ( oops, sadly), the children look like me.

Fat chance.

10. Tell him I'll mail him some homemade yogurt. It will be melted
and runny by the time he gets it, but I'm sure he'll love it anyway. I just read through that entire thread. Great stuff. Thanks for starting that. Goodnight.

12. No, its sour green apple from the tree in my backyard.
I have a friend who is an amateur world famous yogurt maker and she gave me the recipe. Due to the nature of the fruit, it might have a few scattered insects or even an occasional worm in it. Honestly, I find it a bit tart, and I've never been a big fan of worms. But that's just me. Probably a holdover from my childhood. If we were bad children, my father would tell us that he was sad, and that he was going to go out back and eat worms out of the garden. I don't know if he really did that, but there a few times when it looked like he had some dirt or something similar stuck in his teeth. Tommy, the box turtle who lives under my shed, loves the apples. He eats his fill and then lobs the cores at squirrels as they run across the power lines in the backyard. He's has a pretty decent aim, too.
