3. Good question!
How many times have they reported the death of his second-in-command? Tony Snow just mentioned that the mortality rate for this unfortunate post was very high... Now they will no longer have that to fall back on when they need a boost in the polls...

5. No, but . . . .
The real handlers of the war, Karl Rove and Karen Hughes, are now trying to decide who the new bogey man is. They'll need one because, just as the arrest of Saddam did not alleviate the insurgency, neither will this.

The insurgency is not about Saddam or Zarqawi, two people of whom most Iraqis are glad to be rid. The insurgency is about:
  • Nationalism: Iraqis do not want their country run by foreigners; and
  • Sectarianism:Many Iraqis do not believe in religious freedom, even for all Muslims, and will not abide by a government dominated by members of a branch of Islam to which one do not belong.
The only thing the Bushies can do about the first is quit the country; unfortunately, there isn't very much anybody can do about the second.

Civil war on sectarian and ethnic lines would most likely have broken out in Iraq had Saddam died of natural causes (like a sudden case of lead poisoning to the brain) instead of his being toppled by a colonial invasion in the Spring of 2003. The presence of foreign imperialist troops only complicates matters for everybody.

6. No, I thinks he's really dead this time.
Not that it matters. The time that the insurgency was composed of AQ-types and Baathists is long past, it's mostly POed average Achmeds now.

7. But he'll have a different name this time.
Al-Something, though, you can be sure.

9. Let's take a look at how many times
now that Zarqawi or his #2 man have been hauled before the cameras. Osama is getting a tad tired of hauling that dialysis machine on his back. Time to kill him off too.

10. You're right, it's an election year after all...the war is unpopular,
and the repubs need to keep control of congress. So it is time to kill OBL off to get higher GOP approval ratings. It's what happens next that concerns me. After OBL is dead and the mid-terms are over and repubs retain control of both houses, what will happen then to snap the populace into a state of uncontrolable fear and keep them approving of the war on terra? Another attack by another "terrist"? How many will die this time?
