I'm sorry, I just don't believe the story that Zarqawi is dead, Part II
I do believe that he is real and that he is a terrorist who does not care one bit about freedom for the Iraq people, but that does not cloud my judgment that I think this is all one giant media/government coverup/fuckup. The same people telling us that this guy is dead are:

The same people who said Iraq had advanced WMD programs and or actual weapons.

The same people who said that Iraq was involved in 9/11.

The same people who said that Iraq had a "relationship" with Al Qaeda.

The same people who said that the insurgency would wind down after Saddam's sons were killed.

The same people who said that the insurgency would wind down after Saddam was captured.

The same people who said that the insurgency would wind down after the "handover" of "sovereignty".

The same people who said that the insurgency would wind down after the elections (3 times).

The same people who said that the insurgency would wind down after Fallujah was flattened (2 times).

The same people who said that the insurgency would wind down after a new Iraqi government was formed.

The same people who said that the insurgency was in "its last throes".

The same people who originally said that we'd be down to 100,000 troops in Iraq in 2004 and only 30,000 in 2005.

So please forgive me if I am refusing, outright, to believe the corporate media chatter and official government claims that he is dead.

My official position remains that Abu Musab Al Zarqawi is alive. I ask that you respect that opinion.

2. I suppose it depends on what you mean by "respect that opinion".
Is it disrespectful for me to tell you that you are wrong? Because you're wrong. He's dead.

4. The issue is not whether he is dead or not (he is dead)
The issue is that the relevance of this is meaningless.

5. No, it means something.
What it means is more of the issue.

7. We don't know what the relevance is.
And it will take some time before we do know. Will attacks on civilians in Iraq decrease or increase? Will his death matter in the long run as concerns the strife in Iraq? Who knows.

6. He's dead... and bloated already...
I think he's been dead a while judging by the photo.

I doubt he died in a blast that leveled a building while leaving his face in such good condition.

8. that's my question
WHEN did he die.... not is he dead.

But I am glad he's gone (but I wouldn't put it past them to pull the body off the ice when they needed it)

9. Oh, come on, man, he was identified by his tattoos even...
...wait a sec... aren't tattoos forbidden by these guys?

-snip
He forbade other prisoners to read anything else. He had his un-Islamic tattoos removed (shedding the last reminders of his old street life).

...but I thought the BBC today said...

-snip

Tattoos

Zarqawi's body was taken a secure location.

"By visual identification it was established that that probably was him, but they... did further examination of his body, found more scars and tattoos consistent with what had been reported which we knew about him.

12. I agree we can't trust anything we are being told...
but I believe he is dead and has been for quite some
time. We have had him on ice and waiting until we
had good reason for a distraction.
Haditha turned out to be that reason.

That, or to take heat off of bushes other lover,
coulter.

13. Does it help that Al Jazeera is reporting it as plain fact?
http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/036F8D00-00D5-4FCA-A378-027C9E4BA23E.htm

That his family believe it? http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/391DEB60-34D8-4139-8388-C3A64C0F4474.htm

Or that his organisation has confirmed it?

Al-Qaida in Iraq confirmed al-Zarqawi's death and vowed to continue its "holy war," according to a statement posted on a Website.

14. To me, it's somewhat like the "new jobs numbers"....
... I prefer to wait a few days/week to see the "revision", which is the truth.

In the jobs numbers case, the revision is pretty much always WORSE than what they initially report/make up.

So I think a wait-and-see attitude is reasonable here, too - wait and see if he "stays" dead. lol
