Make Divorce Illegal ...
I'm NOT for this by any stretch of the imagination, but if the GOP is so hell bent on protecting the sactity of marriage they would
make divorce illegal.

2. I had this saved -from a while back - GOP Divorce info (a little dated)
In defense of marriage...

*Ronald Reagan - divorced the mother of two of his children to marry
Nancy Reagan who bore him a daughter only 7 months after the marriage.

*Bob Dole - divorced the mother of his child, who had nursed him through
the long recovery from his war wounds.

*Newt Gingrich - divorced his wife who was dying of cancer.

*Dick Armey - House Majority Leader - divorced

*Sen. Phil Gramm of Texas - divorced

*Gov. John Engler of Michigan - divorced

*Gov. Pete Wilson of California - divorced

*George Will - divorced

*Sen. Lauch Faircloth - divorced

*Rush Limbaugh - Rush and his current wife Marta have six marriages and
four divorces between them.

*Rep. Bob Barr of Georgia - Barr, not yet 50 years old, has been married three times.
Barr had the audacity to author and push the "Defense of Marriage Act." The current joke
making the rounds on Capitol Hill is "Bob Barr...WHICH marriage are you defending?!?

*Sen. Alfonse D'Amato of New York - divorced

*Sen. John Warner of Virginia - divorced (once married to Liz Taylor.)

*Gov. George Allen of Virginia - divorced

*Henry Kissinger - divorced

*Rep. Helen Chenoweth of Idaho - divorced

*Sen. John McCain of Arizonia - divorced

*Rep. John Kasich of Ohio - divorced

*Rep. Susan Molinari of New York - Republican National Convention Keynote Speaker - divorced

3. I read a statistic one time that said that...
people in the Bible belt were 5 times more likely to get a divorce than people who lived on the coasts.

The same article also said that people who were dead set against gay marriage were also about 5 - 6 times more likely to get a divorce.

Sanctity of marriage my ass!

4. They WANT TO, along with making birth control illegal
Trust me, they'd love to do just that.

However, what would defend marriage would be mandating a waiting period between divorce and remarriage, like 10 years, that would keep any minor children safer than allowing subsequent families to eat up what should be child support for the first.

The type of woman who auditions in hope of being a trophy wife would find herself stuck without a gig if there were little hope of marriage to the big man until after her own looks had started to go.

The threat to traditional marriage is mostly economic but partly the patriarchal tradition of serial polygamy. Amending the laws to prevent hasty remarriages would do more to protect marriage than preventing people who are caught in horrible marital situations from escaping them.

If I'd had to stay married to my ex, I'd be dead.

7. I've always said It should as difficult to get married
as it is to get divorced. If people had to hire two lawyers, spend a $100k and sign away half of everything everything they own before they got married, there would be a lot fewer marriages...to fail.

5. I am 100% for outlawing Divorce.
ONE MAN - ONE WOMAN - ONE TIME

This bullshit about gays ruining the fine institution of marriage is total crap. I can't believe any sane, reasonable, sensible, logical person would even entertain the notion. How often do you hear of a divorce ending because one of the parties was gay? Sure, it happens. But not as often as "irreconcilable differences," or due to an affair, or some other thing that's totally unrelated to being gay.

I'm all for it. Cut out the shit and outlaw divorce.

6. Why stop with making divorce illegal? Make marriage mandatory.
When a young man attains the age of majority (assuming he has survived his required service to Jesus in the crusades) the church will assign to him a female bride. She will submit to him as the slave she was born to be.

There, problem solved. Gays are no longer a threat to marriage.

It shouldn't be necessary, but :sarcasm:

Hey, urbudda welcome to DU! :bounce:

8. Works for me, the religious zealots that hijacked the GOP would
be shown to be either the nutjobs (if they back it) or hypocrites (if they won't back it)that they are

Some Dem (with a spine) could make great coverage by bringing this up, If they want to protect the 'sanctity' of marriage, they should outlaw divorce.

Jesus himself said divorce was adultery, which is one of the big 10 No-No's they keep wanting to post in the schoolhouses and courtrooms.

Of course they couldn't back it, throwing all those adulterers out of the church would cut into their profit margins by way too much.

Welcome to DU!

10. Mother Teresa...
...worked hard to keep divorce illegal in Ireland.

Divorces for big donors like Princess Di, however, were viewed quite differently...
