Bush betrays Democrats' ideals!
...we're not incredibly shocked by this, are we?

Then why, since Arlen Specter is a Republican, are there 30 threads about him when he votes like a Republican?

Can we please all just admit that Arlen is batting for the other team and let this stupid "Specter shows his true colors" stuff end?

2. You're gonna have to explain that one.
I'm not going to jump on a 2-poster and scream "Freeper" over this one, but you'll really have to explain your statement.

Being predictable and boring are NOT admirable traits. Neither is pride in being stupid.

6. Ha!
You tell me something good about Clinton and I'll tell you something good about Bush. And while we're at it, why don't you explain to us why we shouldn't criticize a politician? Is this American right only reserved for you?

9. The same can be said for Bush
So many people claimed to want to drink a beer with Bush...odd considering he's an ex-alcoholic but whatever.

Bush was at the right place at the right time and said the right thing when talking to the firefighters on the rubble after 9/11. Many people here agree.

However, this is Democratic Underground. Of course we criticize politicians. We'll eat yours and we'll eat our own. We're opinionated which in turn makes us pretty damn patriotic considering most Americans are apathetic. So to come here and claim Democrats don't have ideals is just absurd. So what's your angle? Do you want to truly discuss or just troll?

8. I'll assume it's an honest question
First off this is a partisan board, how much back patting for the Dem's are you going to see if you go read a site like FR? None I'd expect, they are there to oppose rather than to support. You have to expect them to criticize the other side.

That said we are going to have people who have in the past supported Bush but no longer trust him drop by as well, if we just shut them down we turn them away just as they are asking questions and that's NOT a good idea. When Bush ran for Governor of Texas he didn't look bad compared to Ann Richards to a lot of people, Ann was out there screaming about if you commit a crime we've got a place for you, if we run out of room we'll build more prisons. Given the rate of prison growth over recent decades and the racial balance in them as far as I'm concerned that was a fascist, party is beside the point. The best I can say about Bush is that he did seem to pull support from hispanic areas that in the past had never voted repub and he did gather support from Texas Dem's as well as repubs. Proving they could be just as tough proved little more than just as bad to some of us.

Problem is he betrayed it all. He was asked straight out about gay marriage, said he wasn't going to be trapped into States Rights issues and they were free to do what they wanted. He's since done little but interfere on that subject and on prescription drug laws, drug war reforms, and any number of other issues. He went from uniter in Texas to divider of the nation, it's been all partisan and mostly destructive. In the end it looks like he played a part well and once he had power all of his past promises were dust, and that was even before the war and everything that followed.

If you come here to support Bush you've got a rough road ahead of you, but if you want to ask honest questions there might be some to talk with you about it. Keep in mind we aren't here because we like him though, so don't be shocked when we don't.

10. The only reason anyone in the Republican party will ever stand up...
Edited on Fri Jun-09-06 11:57 AM by originalpckelly
to Bush is for self-centered reasons. That doesn't mean they aren't needed. We have to remember these people are in the driver seat. Secondly, they possess large amounts of political capital, at least when they come out against the President. People don't expect Republicans to challenge the President and that is why it is so important when even they do it.

We can bitch all we want, but what the hell are we going to do with out these people? Nothing. We are in the worst possible position: we need them to protect the republic, but they only want to protect themselves. Hopefully, they will understand how useless their offices will be if the President keeps on taking power away from the Congress. We can only hope.
