What an amazing creatures!

They fight hard when hooked and exhibit canabilism when being fished with jiggs in the Sea of Cortez (for restaurants).

Their free range diet is krill. They change a multitude of colors in a flash (communication), not to mention ink and body/tentacle language. They are Social. They use their tentacles like hands. They are very efficient predators. And may have exhibited curiosity and learning.

Note to self: must become a better vegetarian.

1. I agree - they must be saved, but don't get too close to them!
They'll beak you good.

I'm absolutely fascinated by squids. Amazing things.

4. They are an older species than we are, aren't they?

I know it is a leap in logic, but form follows function in Biology, and the similarities between their tentacles and our fingers (slightly webbed to) our hands and the functions of arms compared to tentacles, and how in both all is routed to the brain, for social survival and cooperation as predators etc. one could speculate about a degree of parallelism.

3. While I'm not up to speed on squids, overfishing is a major problem...
world-wide. Japan is a big culprit and so is the US.
