LOS ANGELES - "Tonight" host Jay Leno might want to consider wearing referee stripes on Wednesday's show when Ann Coulter and George Carlin are his guests.

Coulter, the acid-tongued conservative with a new book out, and Carlin, the quick-witted, antiestablishment comedian who's in the voice cast for the new animated film "Cars," were booked at separate times for the NBC late-nighter, a spokeswoman said Monday.

But the duo's meeting could produce serious fireworks for "Tonight," which usually limits its political fodder to Leno's bipartisan monologue jokes.

Coulter, author of "Godless: The Church of Liberalism," has drawn fire for attacking the four New Jersey widows who pushed for an independent commission to investigate the Sept. 11 World Trade Center attacks in which their husbands died.

DON'T BLAME ME

Floating around the Internet these days, posted and e-mailed back and forth, are a number of writings attributed to me, and I want people to know they're not mine. Don't blame me.

Some are essay-length, some are just short lists of one and two-line jokes, but if they're flyin' around the Internet, they're probably not mine. Occasionally, a couple of jokes on a long list might have come from me, but not often. And because most of this stuff is really lame, it's embarrassing to see my name on it.

And that's the problem. I want people to know that I take care with my writing, and try to keep my standards high. But most of this "humor" on the Internet is just plain stupid. I guess hard-core fans who follow my stuff closely would be able to spot the fake stuff, because the tone of voice is so different. But a casual fan has no way of knowing, and it bothers me that some people might believe I'd actually be capable of writing some of this stuff.

And it's all pure RW bullshit. When I hear of these E-Mails it makes me think they were dreamed up by the lying mofo Swifties.

Part of his schtick is saying that he revels in chaos and the human race's death spiral. That is to say, his schtick would best be served, in a way, by egging her on. Ironically, maybe, but whatever. It's not gonna be a fight. At best, he'll get in a few barbs about the bush administration's civil war on american liberties, then chuckle along with her about the ineffectual Democratic party. This is just ratings puffery, with little chance of follow through. If they really wanted a brawl, they'd have put her on with someone like Margaret Cho. Carlin's smarter, and funnier, but he's too cynical to be a fighter.
