Stop trashing Truthout, you fall into the Right's trap.
Edited on Tue Jun-13-06 10:10 AM by Ian_rd
The very few times the mainstream media errs on a story that makes Bush look bad (Mapes/Rather National Guard documents) it's turned into a freakin' national controversy that rages for months and becomes infallible proof of a Liberal conspiracy in the media to bring down God-fearing Republicans.

And every single mistake made by a Liberal news blog that does the same thing turns into an Internet-wide controversy and a discussion on how we can move on from such a tragic mistake that has set us back.

Meanwhile, the MSM and Wingnut Internet is full of Right-wing bullshit that is catapulted and repeated endlessly. And when lies and mistakes are found, they are never corrected (Swift Boat Veterans for Horseshit, et al).

How long did it take the millions of us in the "fringe" to force the alleged lies of the Bush Administration's case for war into mainstream media discussion (years!), and yet the media never alluded that they had made mistakes parroting the Right's lies. Instead they continue to insist that "everyone" thought Saddam was about to nuke the White House and release VX nerve gas into our elementary schools.

True, one of the reasons is that we Liberals actually hold our news outlets to a standard of facts, while the Righties only want the kind of brainless philosophical masturbation they get from Coulter, Rush, O'Reilly, et al, facts be damned.

So, demand corrections and accuracy from our outlets, but if you want to trash someone, trash the people who willfully misinform millions of American citizens without apology every goddamn day on your evening news.

3. It's the story, not the site
The story was absurd, and no one at truthout made any attempt to correct its obvious untruths. In fact, they dug in deeper..

That's how you lose credibility and standing. And trust.

We liberals - over here - hold that truth in reporting should be applied to everyone, not just the ones we embrace. If we start to measure what we do by what the rightwingnut assholes do, we deserve to be shut down.

It was a shameful display of bullshit, that story, and the backing of it - for a month now - made it worse.

But, it's a nothing little site, and life goes on. There are far more important things to tend to. Like going to vote in the Democratic primary in my Commonwealth today ...........................

amount of bullshit as people thought their loved ones were alive and they were not. But that is just me....

19. Truth in reporting? Then why believe Luskin and the NYT and the fact
that the WH needs to bundle their activities for the day to jump their ratings.

Truth in reporting is reminding everyone that they reported they would kick out anyone who had anything to do with the leak.

20. What leak?
Luskin made the information from Fitzgerald public ONLY with Fitzgerald's approval, because that's how it's done.

So you can rely on its veracity.

Unlike the Leopold story, which was pure bullshit.

As for the White House, I have no idea what you're addressing there.

Edited on Tue Jun-13-06 10:34 AM by theboss
Honestly, I can barely navigate that site and I'm INTERESTED in what they have to say.

They stepped into it themselves. I think Leopold was taking a big guess that Rove was about to be indicted and somehow conned Ash and Co. into buying his story.

7. I know I'm reaching here.......
...really reaching.....but I'm not so sure Truthout had it wrong. Something about this whole thing is off. Very off. I'm not at all sure there wasn't an indictment - and the Justice Department had their grubby fingers in the mix so it won't go anywhere.

Yea, yea, I know....far fetched...but my nose tells me something ain't as it appears here.

9. You are right!
You see the things is though, less people listen to us and trust us when things like Leopold happen. It isn't fair, but it unfortunately such is the way in our nation today.

We have to watch ourselves. Be passionate, but be correct. They are going to jump on everything we say, and we should know that.

The real question is why non-partisan "normal" people don't hold news organizations to the same standards we do?

But regardless of how wrong they are, it doesn't excuse what appears to have happened here.

I posted this on day on of the Leopold story.

The skeptics aren't to blame. We didn't fall for it.

sources were phony.

Since sources aren't revealed easily, I'll wait! I'll want BEFORE I condemn TO.

I'd rather believe TO than Luskin or his client.

My gut tells me that Fitzgerald is also in for an attack by DUers no matter what he says in his comments about this or what leakers might say.
