Am I the only one who can't get riled up about this Truthout thing?
Leopold got his hands on a big story, confirmed it with sources, and then reported it. Now it looks like he might've been wrong, but Truthout is standing by their story.

To all of these developments, I respond with a resounding, "so what?"

The future of non-traditional media is not hanging in the balance on the accuracy of this one story, folks. Nor is the fate of Rove, Libby, Hadley, Cheney, or Bush. They will or won't be indicted/flipped/impeached, regardless of whether Leopold got it right or wrong.

I just don't quite get why we're filling up thread after thread over this navel-gazing.

1. I think the YearlyKos proves that the blogosphere
and internet news is alive and well whether Jason Leopold is a big liar or TruthOut loses credibility.

2. I'm with you...
I actually found the initial glee and euphoria really funny when Truthout reported the pending indictment.

The backlash is just stupid but predictable.

5. I agree
and Leopold might have been wrong only in interpreting the facts

It's not like Drudge has ever posted anything that later turned out not to be true.

18. Drudge was right about this one
He said on his radio show that this whole Rove indictment thing was a hoax. He was correct.

7. agreed, I have stayed out of this tempest and still watch with
interest how it comes out

but it's much to do about little in my opinion

Leopold certainly isn't the first and won't be the last to be incorrect on a story. how they choose to deal with it remains to be seen, if he is indeed wrong

I think there is more to come......

14. you won't find one post from me on it
Because I feel no need to make up my mind at any particular moment. A college professor I had in my undergrad days told me, "Just visualize it (an idea, thought, news, concept, whatever) like a book. Put the book on the bookshelf and hold it there."

And that is where the truthout/Leopald et al matter is: on the bookshelf. Some day, of course, enough news will emerge that we will see the big picture.

9. I was neutral on it- it was just another news story. One I hoped would...
...be true, but another news story none-the-less. But there was a person from TruthOut... Not Mr. Leopold. I want to make that clear. This person did their best to whip everyone into a frenzy. When the inevitable questions came others excoriated them for daring to Disbelieve. I've been on DU since before September 11th, so I've seen all sorts of behavior.

The last time I saw DUers turn on each other so fiercely was after the Election of 2004.

It continue for a few days, this slashing against those who Dared Question, culminating in a series of drunken, mean-spirited accusations by that person from TruthOut which stabbed at the very existence of DU. I became "swept up" in this issue at that point because I, you, nearly everyone at DU right up to the Administrator were fiercely insulted.

I still don't hold much against TruthOut or Leopold. If they have another scoop I will pay attention to it just as I would have six months or a year ago. Kephra used to write for TruthOut. I still miss Kephra and when I think of TruthOut I think of him and his useful work.

But TruthOut's got a very inept self-appointed PR person who needs to stay away next time- for everyone's sake.

the bile spewing and drama got old a long time ago, yet like the energizer bunny it keeps going and going and going...

I never posted on any of those threads and had to start hiding them after awhile, I could feel the flames emanating from them even if I didn't click on them.

I just don't get it.

Perhaps I should switch to koolaid because I sure don't get all of the "TO should apologize" and "Leopold needs to ( fillintheblank ) now!" demands.

17. No, it's not big deal. But what's really funny is all the hysterical
people running around being snarfy assholes screaming "You've been had. Get over it." I'm having problems with someone like that right now.

20. Nope, not worked up about it one way or the other
When the initial story was broke, I said to myself to wait for confirmation. Confirmation didn't come, and didn't come, and now, here we are.

Everybody, every paper, every TV station makes mistakes. Truthout over reached on this and got burned. Shit happens, nothing to get worked up about.

22. No, I get riled thinking about the NYT going along with * lies...
not one story at TO that was wrong about one little mouse of a man.

I also get worked up about midterms. I guess I'd better get back to that instead of getting into this frey.
