Your 100% correct.
Personally, I think the debate over the accuracy of stories and the truthfulness of reporters is a good thing.
Doesn't the fierce debate on this sortof remind everyone that it is worth critically analyzing articles and commentary before automatically assuming they are true? What isn't good about that?
There is nothing wrong with disagreement or debate. Just because many people (including myself) think the Leopold story is nonsense doesn't mean they are suddenly not going to vote Democratic. This isn't about changing party affiliation, it's just an arguement about the accuracy of a particular story. Debate is a good thing. Marching in lockstep all the time is not.
I see DU as a better place because of the arguments over the Truthout story. I see that contrarians are not muzzled here. I see that those who wish to poke holes in what may be otherwise conventional wisdom on this site are not censored or tombstoned. I see that those whom are probably just thinking out loud (yet are often mislabled conspiracy theorists) are not ejected for opinions that may be a little out of the ordinary.
Personally, I think DU is better than ever. I think this is a great community with lots of fantastic people.
