In the spirit of Swiftian satire, I would like to propose a topic:
What should we do once Democrats have regained control of the White House and Congress?
The restriction on entries is that they have to be based on something outrageous the Bush administration has been doing, but turned to different ends.
Here's my entry:
Revive the Johnson-era "War on Poverty," with a difference or two.
Declare as "enemy combatants" appropriate leaders of the oil, pharma, insurance, and consumer credit industries, as well as any CEO who ships U.S. jobs to foreign sweatshops. Lock them up at Gitmo, without access to the judicial system, until such time as the President has determined that we have won the war against poverty.
Assert the right of government to order warrentless eavesdropping and phone-record culling for those accused of siding with the perpetuation of poverty.
Develop a economic equivalent of the Patriot Act, giving the President sweeping powers to take action against those perpetuating poverty worldwide. Claim the right to use military force unilaterally for pre-emptive "self-defense" strikes against pro-poverty forces.
Declare that "you're either with us, or with poverty."
Now, let's hear your suggestions...!
